Have you checked for trouble codes? I have never seen any problem with the wiring to the check engine light. If you still want the color refer to a emission service manual, no mechanic I know has all those colors set to memory.

Just trying to wire up a MIL on my Jeep with a 5.3L. Runs great Just need to add the MIL and make sure that the wire I need is a ground wire, grounded by the ecm to turn the light on.

2012 freightliner cascadia DD15 fault code ECU 1... prior to the fault code the engine bogged down really bad and solid yellow and check engine light come on.

an answer from just answers reports this
ecu 1 fault means the engine ECM has an internal fault and needs to be replaced
most of the time with this code it is not the ECM itself but usually a wiring problem going to the ECm
there should be 2 fuses for the ECM either next to the ecm in plastic covers by a starter or in a plastic box
check all wiring going to and from the engine and battery grounds
especially the grounds
check for wires rubbed through and loose terminals
take it to a service dealer for a proper diagnosis as it costs money wasting time trying to find the fault yourself as a truck standing still is not earning it's keep

Wouldn't start unless the check engine light came on. Now, why can't I get the check engine light to come on?

It could be bad PCM, or wiring problem to PCM. Take off connectors to PCM (disconnect neg. battery first) and look for corrosion or loose fit in the pins. Check that pcm powers up-maybe a problem with voltage to pcm.

ecm goes bad it will go in limp mode, vechicle will run poorly check engine light will stay on vechicle wont need to use a code scanner check for ecm fault code, if check engine light not turning on when you start vechicle could have blowed ecm fuse or wiring problem, could have loose connection at ecm electrical connector or ecm getting poor ground but first check for a defective ecm using a code scanner.

I have an 2001 GMC sonoma that will not start. The engine is getting gas, fire, air, and the compression is fine. The timing mark on crank lines up. What could be the problem.

you may want to check to see if this engine has a crankshaft position sensor, that tells the computer when to fire the distributor to the right wire. It might be the ecm itself. The best way to see if it is getting fire is to use a test light and while someone cranks the engine check the number one plug wire for fire. If there is no fire to the wire it can be a faulty ignition module in the distributor , ecm, crankshaft position sensor, bad wire bad cap bad coil. Go through process of ilimination

Check the fuses. you will have one for ecm, also check the cigarette lighter fuse. they some times the dlc in with that fuse. it is best to remove the fuse when checking, I have found that they loose contact and removing them fixes problems. Haynes manuals do have electrical for the computers.

anything is possible, but ford ECMs are known for there lack of failure. they almost never go bad. in 12 years as a performance and diagnostic specialist I've replaced scores of GM ECMs, 4 or 5 chryslers, two toyotas, and one ford ECM. I replaced it at my manager's insistence, and it did not fix the problem. had any mechanical work done lately? valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, or the like? maybe a ground wire was not put back on tight enough or in the right spot?

the wire from the bulb to the ecm needs to be verifed good, a easy way is to find which terminal number the ck engine light is on, and see if that pin provides a ground when the key is on. if it does, the wire may be bad, if no ground, the ecm is bad.

2002 chrysler 300 M 3.5 liter immediatly quits after starting.

The ECM is most likey the culprit but I would check ground wires and wiring harness to be sure they aren't faulty. With you telling me the voltage is too high, it pretty much points to wiring but the ECM may have gone bad and its just sending blind signals hence the high voltage. The engine light isn't coming maybe because of the ECM isn't working. Pray it isnt the ECM, its costly but exhaust your options by checking wiring and ground beforing fingering the ECM
