Question about Plymouth Voyager

1 Answer

Car dies or loses power while driving. Changed out, spark plugs, wires, battery, fuel pump, fuel filter, distributer cap. Not sure what else to check.

My '96 Plymouth Voyager (134,000 miles) looses power but only very sporadically - usually when going up steep grade for an extended length of time. The "Service Engine Soon" light also comes on and off, sometimes for months, sometimes for weeks. My mechanic could only tell me that the compter code prompting the light to go on was "Lean Code Bank #1". He suggested a complete tune-up, new fuel filter, and fuel injection cleaning (over $500) as the first course of action. If this doesn't work, there may be a vacuum leak somewhere in the air/gas intake system which is more costly to diagnose and fix. I'll let you know if tune-up works (if and when I get it done!).

If there is no spark to the plugs, you may have inadvertently blown a fuse for the ignition system when changing other parts. Check the fuses in the box under the dash or under the bonnet. Also have a look and make sure the little carbon brush pickup hasn't fallen out of the distributor cap. Its the little black thing in the middle inside of the cap. It is spring loaded and sometimes can fall out.

I'm glad you figured it out. However, the "white stuff in the tank" sounds like somebody might have put sugar in your gas tank. You should probably pull the tank down, drain it, and clean it out real good. Otherwise, you are likely to be taking your fuel rails and injectors apart again.

You've already eliminated the spark plug & wireset, distributor cap & rotor.
Sounds like your car needs a tune-up, specifically, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve, and/of the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve.

Components checked/replaced during a tune-up are:
air filter
motor oil
motor oil filter
breather filter
fuel filter(s)
fuel strainer
PCV valve
EGR valve
spark plugs
spark plug wires
ECM or distributor cap & rotor
cabin air filter
transmission oil filter
transmission oil
engine coolant
check all vacuum hoses and lines

I have a 2000 f150, while driving at 60mph it stalled. Fuel filter has been changed, pump is working. My truck wont stay running. Please help

Try wiggling the relays in the power distribution box under the hood, you may have a poor connection to the fuel pump relay. Also you should check fuel pressure. Also check the ignition, when your truck dies do you lose spark?

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and watch it to see if when it dies you are losing fuel pressure. if you dont lose pressure then that eliminates the fuel system
