Air conditioning problems

First check that all electrical connections to/from your air conditioning components are tight and secure with no broken or chaffed wires and connectors, or oil swollen connection points. Then check that all fuses and relays involved in the operation of your air conditioning system are operational. If all is good, then remove the belt around the air conditioner compressor pulley. Get a wrench and try to turn the front of the compressor pulley. It should turn with little to no resistance. If it wont move or is very hard to turn, it is probably locked up and needs repair or replacement. If it moves, then the compressor part is OK, but your clutch would likely need replacement. Some model cars its cheaper to just replace the whole compressor than to rebuild the clutch. Jaguar sounds expensive - I would seek out a junk yard. Good luck.

My BMW 318 air con fanbelt has broken is this an urgent problem or can I take time in replacing it.

Are you sure that the belt only turns the AC compressor? Be sure that it's not also connected to the fan and the power steering pump. If it's only turning the air conditioning compressor then you can live with it for as long as you can live without air conditioning.

We had the serpenitne belt replaced on our mini van two weeks ago now the air conditioning doesn't work. When I called they said one wouldn't have to do with the other. Do you think that's

Replacing the belt would have nothing to do with causing the air conditioning to stop working UNLESS the mechanic accidentally knocked loose the two terminal connector on the A/C compressor when replacing the belt. This is easy to do as the connector is in the immediate area of the belt and may have been. Check for loose connections around the compressor.

How hard is it to replace a heater core for a 1999 jeep cherokee?

This is a difficult task for a do-it-yourselfer. The entire dashboard needs to be removed to access the HVAC housing, which houses the heater core and AC evaporator. It would take a skilled technician with all the correct tools approximately 5.5 hours to accomplish this job. You would also need to evacuate and recharge the air conditioning system, which can not be done without dedicated AC recovery equipment. It is illegal to discharge freon into the atmosphere. For these reasons, I would not recommend you attempt this repair yourself. Have a qualified technician perform this job. I have done several of these, and it's never something I look forward to doing.

1996 impala ss air conditioner compressor is very noisy

That clutch and coil are serviceable without replacing the compressor but I have had little success with this as usually the clutch gets in that shape subsequently from activity going on inside the compressor which means that clutch is failed generally for a reason.replace the compressor -orfice tube-reciever drier and happy motoring......

Wanting to replace air compressor on 1999 durango.

Air compressors very seldom become defective. However, if you wish to tackle the job make sure the freon is removed from the unit by loosening the high pressure valve. I would suggest you take it to a shop and have it repaired. Purchase what ever you need from the internet. Purchased all the parts to redo my 1966 mercury from Ebay, saved $400 hired expert to do the job for $200. Tools for replacing are expensive you would come out better by having it done. May be a small problem, such as the dryer, or low freon, or a leak Most shops will diagnosis the problem for free or a small charge. Or you could check the unit by adding a leak detector using the low side of the air condition unit. The low side is the lareer of th two lines in the unit.

Air conditioning light blinks, turns off

either the belt is loose or there is a compressor issue (either the clutch or the compressor is most likely shot)

I used these guys for my last one to have it shipped to me. If you haven't done this before it is not an easy DIY job (you need a vaccum pump, and gauges to do it correctly

Air condition problem

When you say "noisy", is it a metallic grinding noise? Or, did someone overcharge the system. If the compressor IS internally noisy, replacing it is only half of the job. Anytime that comperssors fail, metallic particles get in the system, from the grinding of the compressor vanes or bearings...and need to be removed. Most of the time, they are trapped in a device called the "receiver-dryer", located next to the condenser in the front of the car. So, replace the compressor, replace the receiver-dryer, and evacuate the system. Hold a vacuum for 30 minutes, and then recharge. Not replacing the receiver dryer will damage the new compressor.
