Ran out of gas today, put gas in it and it took a minute to start but did and ran fine. Got home, turned it off and then tried to restart it and it won't start. The lights come on, the engine tuns but it doesn't catch and stay running. What could be the problem?

This engine is electronically controlled so the first thing that must be done here is to have the systems control computer tested for fault codes and then do the proper diagnostics based on those codes.
sometimes when you run out of gas your fuel pump is dry ,you need to put lots of gas in then turn your key to the on position with out turning over the engine ,you should be able to hear your fuel pump cycle if it still wont start ,pump the accelerator pedal a couple of times then try and start it
first,, had the engine stoped before you friend turned up, or did he stop it????
