I just had this same thing happen with my Ford Taurus, and it turned out to be a bad key. The repair shop switched back and forth between two different keys we had with us 10 or 12 times, and it always started with the good key, never with the "bad" key. They said if the theft light is flashing quickly, that means the anti-theft system is engaging. If the anti-theft light just lights up, that is normal.

close the door and put the key in the door lock and unlock the door ... that should stop the anti theft and your van should start unless the battery is bad.

This means that your key is not being recogonized.Ethier the chip in the key is bad or the patts transciever at the lock cylinder. Do you have a spare key? If not you will have to get 2 new keyss cut and programmed.

99 windstar will not start. Theft light flashes rapidly then flashes code 16. My brother who is a locksmith reprogrammed keys with computer successfully. Do you think it is a relay?

You need a qualified mechanic for that one, sorry. Not the answer you wanted but sometimes there just isn't any other option without the knowledge or equipment.

Just change the ecm on my 2001 ford Windstar and it won't start the anti theft light is blinking

did you get the ecm flash programmed? newer vehicles require the ecm to be flash programmed before they are installed your dealer and some auto parts stores can do this for you it usually runs around $90.
