  • steve937 Jul 28, 2008

thanks for that, I'll give it a try.

Someone else has told me that you get to the fan motor through the dash and even mentioned that I had to remove the steering wheel???

I will try your way first I thinks!

1998 2.8 avant quattro. In the last month the heater fan has become intermitent. Once it has come on it works fine unitl you switch the car off but not guaranteed to come on again next time you start. Doesn't seem to be linked to anything else (temp etc) but seems to be working progressively less often!

I have exactly the same problem, i am not sure but as it is intermittent I think either the electronic control for the climate control is on its way out (expensive) or the brushes on the motor are dirty, the only way to find out is get to the fan and see if it is getting a supply

for an audi car?? it is in the engine compartment, near the windshield, it is just very hard to get into it but if you can, you need to remove the top covers in the engine compartment underneath the wiper and as you go deeper, the motor cover would be visible and once you uncover that plastic housing, you can pull the motor out with the two strollers still attached to it.

    tnx again,

My heater quit working but makes a sound like it's trying to blow. What could be my problem?

the heater works from hot coolant flowing through it so if it stopped working but was working recently , the problem will be in the heater control tap not turning on ( control module )
the blower works of electrical and trying to blow air indicates a problem in the fan speed control ( again a control module module)
if you have a climate control system in the car It may be the climate control module that is faulty as it controls both

My heater fan works but no heat 1995 audi 90

First I can give you a better answer if you tell me, does air flow out he vents when you turn on the fan? if so then turn the climate control from hot to cold and back. you should be able to hear a vent door open and close under the dash. If you dont then your problem is most likly the cable that the climate control is connected to is broke or if its all electric{which I believe it is} then the the selector control is bad,get one at the junk yard. The first test to do is start the car and let it warm up.Then open hood and look on the firewall { the shettmetal between the engine compartment and inside the car} look for 2 hoses comming from engine and going into the inside of the car. There may be 4 hoses,2 heat 2 ac,feel them with your hand there should be 2 that are hot. If not then you have a blocked heater core, this can usually be fixed by disconnecting the lines and flush them out with a hose.

I replaced my heater blower in my 2002 bonaville and it either wont work at all or it runs all the time and woont shut off

Does the car have a climate control system? Could be the heater/AC control or the associated sensors have a problem.
The other required part of the system are the heater resistors. These allow for speed control. They could cause intermittent behavior, but would never cause the fan to run all the time.

Heater/AC Fan Problem

sounds like a shorrt to 12v to me. The wire is hot and the fan is shutting off because the blower is bad, getting to hot, it will bind, causing over amperage.

Heater fan will not work until the car warms up and then it will start to work.

If your van has climate control try switching from auto to manual, a lot of auto climate controls "Wait for warm up" before turning on fan for heater.
