Ther are lift kits out there if thats what you want to do. But if you want to go up that high you will need to replace a lot of things with bigger and stronger things. Like springs, trailing arms, you may need to add trailing arms if you have not got them fitted, axle guides axle mounts, spring dampers, and you may need to change universal joints and angles to accomadate the extra hieght. Go see you local 4x4 product supplier and see what they have to offer for your 4x4 in the way of lift kits. But unless you are going to do some hardcore offroading, and often, it may not be worth your time or money to do. If you are just after looks of a lifted vehicle and don't plan on testing out what it can do, you could always just add the lift blocks and be done with that, it just depends on what you want to do as to how much and how far you need to go. You can get real hardcore or you can go for looks. But the more hardcore you go the more your wallet opens up and the money falls out!

Just acquired a 2006 subaru forester with a lift gate lock stuck. Owners manual illustration doesn't look what lies behind the access port.Any hints for very large hands?

Do you know that TWO fast clicks of the unlock button will unlock the back doors and lift gate?
Anyway ... you can reach into the access port with a finger or screw driver. There's a lever that pushes up (I think) and to the car left. This unlocks the lift gate latch.

The lift gate latch on my 2006 Subaru Forester sticks. It moves forward to open but must be pushed back to close. How do I fix or replace?

The latch handle pivots are rusted. Getting the handle off requires:
* remove the hatch inner panels.
* remove the nuts that secure the outside time panel under the hatch glass. I don't recall if this is actually needed ...
* remove the nuts that hold the latch handle, and disconnect the rod to the lock mechanism.

You can now either clean up the latch handle or replace it with a new one.

How to install a block heater in a 2004 Forester

You must remove the center freeze plug from the block, this requires the block be drained and that the van be on a car lift to get at the plug.

03 Subaru Forester. sunroof opens (retracts) about an inch and then jams. Sort of 'cocks' to the passenger side. I have taken the glass out and with help once it gets past that one spot it goes all...

OK dude, I have been doing hours of research for the same problem with mine. Here is the deal - you can do this WITHOUT having to remove the entire headliner. 1. open sunshade 2. remove plastic covers form the 4 lift hinges for the glass. 3. unscrew bolts for hinges - take careful note of the amount and position of all spacers for each of the 4 hinges (they may have different amounts - reinstall exactly as found). 4. carefully remove glass 5. move bracket back (via switch or hex-wrench_ about 4 in - you will see the "lift wedge" to the side of each bracket - they are each screwed into the rail with 2 small screws. 6. unscrew both lift wedges 7. slide mechanism (switch or hex-wrench back and forth until you see the little plastic part go by in the hole that you have just uncovered - voila!. you will likely see/find bits of broken plastic from the pieces that you are replacing. 8. while you are there thoroughly clean out the gutters and insure drainage holes are clear avoid grease, since that adds to the muck in there. 9. remove the old and drop in the new replacement pieces using needlenose pliers - note the pieces are asymetrical and have a particular left and right side- install correctly, narrow part towards the rear. 10. test to make sure it is sliding correctly. 11. close fully, then reinstall glass, putting spacers back properly, re screwing (don't over tighten as you will break the glass - doh!) and replace hinge covers.
Drink a beer - you just saved yourself hundreds in labor costs.

Installing replacement side mirror on 2007 Subaru Forester

yes... you'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you can access the bolts holding the mirror on and disconnect the wiring harness as well..

How do you change the drive shift light on a 1998 Subaru forester?

Carefully pry the cover from around the shifter, usually rear toward front easiest. Then you will see the light fixture. If you still don't see it and need to you can remove the 2 screws at the rear which release the cover from floor pan. then you can lift it to reach easier. Hope this helps and have a good day.
