No make, model, year, etc, or even if you're referring to an automatic or manual gearbox. If it's a four-speed manual, you may have bearings going on your countershaft. The first three gears transmit torque through the countershaft, the fourth gear is (usually) direct drive and doesn't go through the countershaft.
hi.it can be that the gear oil is old and dirty so a sincro in the box is stuck to 4th gear.you are going to have to remove gearbox and investigate.hope this helps
tyres thats normal thats how the dif works wheels go opposite ways. im thinking the linkage has snapped inside the gearbox. its a half circle that moves the cogs for the gears. if its locked in place then its slipped. it would need a replacement gearbox. part of it mus be broken off and in the cogs thats why its cutting the engine out it will act like a brake and just burn the clutch out if you keep doing it. replace the gear box, its lasted a long time from 1991 if its original, when fitting new gearbox replace the gearbox fluid. give the gear box a good flush out before fitting.
needs a new clutch ,its grabbing and not clearing properly ,do not use force to change gear as these vehicle dont like it the syncros break ,stop engine put in gear clutch down then start engine Cannot really answer the wear in the gearbox question without a drive though but from what you descibe i would say clutch but it could the syncros but not on all gears ,normally second goes then thrid and fourth then finally first .best bet is to get a local mechanic to have a drive and then post what he says on here by answering my reply then i will get it .
if its jumping out of fourth back into nuetral then you have 2 options, both involve taking out the gearbox.
1/replace the baulk ring on fourth gear or
2/ get a recon box(poss the easiest,as all rings/bearings will have been replaced).
