It's a pretty simple swap actually you just need to wire the speed sensor, speed wire if its digital display and back-up switch. The Auto has more wires than the manual. I suggest that you buy the manual so that you can find these wires. But it's not hard.

In order for the alternator to do its job, it obviously needs to be installed correctly..
That being said..we will take the grass roots approach on this one.
The alternator is part of your charging system.
In this particular case, if you use a voltmeter, you will probaly see that your battery is dead.
Charge your battery.
Use the normal precautions when doing this.
If it is not a maintenance free battery, pop your vent lids to the battery while charging.
Its important that your battery is FULLY charged before re-starting.
(in some cases, your warranty on the alternator can be voided if this is not the case)
If the alternator is doing its job, the battery will stay fully charged.
