Question about 1995 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

I love my 95 Neon and if i don't fix it i'm gonna be SOL

My rad fans are not turning on this is causing my engine to overheat quickly after it has been running for a while. Also, notived my passenger head light was put so I bought new ones and the one light still doesn't come on. Only on low though. Both high beams work fine.

Probably not the thermostat, but changing it is not gonna hurt. More likely a fan or radiator problem. don-ohio

Thermostat or water pump?

Sounds like a thermostat is being sticky. A water pump issue should cause the vehicle to over heat quickly while driving if it is not pumping.

2003 Toyota Hiace 5L Diesel overheat problems resolution

cause of engine overheating is either the rad fan not working well or luck of circulation of coolant through the engine, if rad fan is working well then might be your radiator {rusty, dirt or clog rad core or leak} make sure your rad cap and all hose and clamp is in good condition as well not preventing any air getting in the system or escaping coolant check also or replace the thermostat might be defective

Causes overheating

no year? who hot, does hot mean only the gauge when high?
engine overheats or passengers.?? LOL'
overheats parked, ???? or moving fast or BOTH?
where are you that needs A/C , Key West>? im clueless.
it was 72 hear yesterday, no A/C needed.??
so how warm was it? out side?
Any engine with a weak cooling system will in fact overheat
if the A/C is used, because of the heat the A/C dumps in front
of the engine cooling radiator. (a silly design but practical)
think of the straw that finally broke the camels back.
its perfect.
top reasons, lots:
coolant low? look in the RAD neck, dead cold, is the RAD FULL??
for now ignore side tank, levels, assume its not working at all , use RAD actual levels.

1: belts slipping, on water pump pulley
2: debris, in the 2 cores up front, in the front nose of car.
3: radiator tubes clogged, making RAD , weak.
4: not running 50% antifreeze, with boilover protection.
mine boils 265" (i just changed mine yesterday)
5: water pump bad, blades inside rusted thru, (bad service)
6: serious engine problems causing cooling system failure.
a: blown head gasket, forcing exhause gases to the water jackets.
B: same with cracked head, or block. (freeze protection ignored)
7: Engine RAD fan dead. (will cause parked , overheating for SURE)
8: a bad thermostat. they dont last forever. 5 years?
I have a video that shows what fails in a thermostat. very revealing.
did i cover it?

check out the 17 signs of overheat here. and 24 causes.

Van keeps shutting off on its own and overheating

you mean the engine, overheats then the engines stalls.?
that latter symptom is normal for overheating.

(some exceptions, ) my Corvette drops cylinders, 1 by 1 to stop
this.(but is still bad , if this happens)

does it overheat only stopped, only moving or both? (KEY question)

fix the over heat, cause. there are may ways to overheat.
from simple to comlex. and no web bunny on earth can guess it.
ill list the simple:
1: low on coolant, no not the side tank, the actual rad is low,
check only on dead cold engine, below 125F (AZ temp)
2: bad RAD cap. not holding pressure.
3: wrong coolant mix or mixing 1 color coolant with another (bad)
4: water pump belt bad , or slipping or missing.
5: rad tubes clogged
6: fan dead,
7: RAD outside ofcore, blocked with filth.
8: blown head gasket,(or far worse)
9: bad water pump.
10: leaks anywhere, (this really is first)

one site that lists them all , every one,... is

Sounds like the radiator fan isn't coming on. You don't need the fan on when you're moving, cause air is blowing into the radiator, but sitting still you need the fan or it'll overheat. This makes me think the fan isn't coming on.

i would check and make sure the cooling fan is operating,if not it will overheat sitting still.a thermostat will cause overheating whether or not it sits still or driving(more so when driving).the same if it has a bad water pump although it may circulate just enough coolant when driving to not overheat with air flow also adding a cooling effect.if you don`t have a leak then i would say the water pump is okay as they usually will leak before causing a overheat problem.make sure the cooling fan is working and the rad does not have anything stopping the air flow over the rad and is not stopping coolant flow in the rad.
