Sounds like something is getting too hot, when the ignition coil or ignition module get too hot they sometimes quit working until they cool down you don't say what kind of engine you have but most ignitions modules are mounted in the side of distributor also some of these k have it bolted in the driver side inner fender wall close to the cabin and most auto parts stores will test it for free and the coil just follow the center cable in distributor and is in the opposite end of it.i hope you find this of help let me know if it is
Same thing happens to me (1990 F-250 5.0L 5 spd) before it felt like a misfire but now my truck shuts right off in gear and after about 5 seconds will cut back in. Won't start directly after but let it sit for about 10 minutes. Fires right up and is sometimes good for 3 or 4 days, then does it again.
