Question about BMW 750

4 Answers

I have a 2002 745Li and I need help. I drove to the Catskills from Queens, N.Y. about 3 1/2 hrs. with no problem. The next day I started the car the dash warning lights kept showing the ABS lights, the parking brake lights, it showed a picture of a car like driving around the curve, it also say servo malfunction. Also now when you hit the gas pedal the rpm gauge doesn't move. The lights for the Reverse,Neutral and Drive doesn't light up. The steering is also tight and as you are driving I press the pedal down and with no acceleration. The car does drive but doesn't goes with speed. Any solutions.

BMW 2002 745LI Here is my problem. As I was driving to the Catskills from Queens I had no problems with the curves in the mountain roads. The car was fine. The next morning I was about to go to the store and I started my car and the dash lights were reading/flashing different signs on the dash screen. Here are the signs they were reading:
    PDC Malfunction
    Dynamic Drive Inactive
    Brake/Drive Fault(Drive Moderately)
    Parking Brake Fault
    Servotronic Malfunction
    Transmission Fault(Drive Moderately)
When I checked the I-Control menu it reads:
"Braking & Dynamic response system inoperative. Parking brake without emergency function. Avoid hardbraking. Please contact the nearest BMW Center. Vehicle detects increased body roll in curves. Avoid high cornering speeds. Please contact your BMW center"
Also on the dash board the turn signal turn but do not return and turn off when you make a left or right hand turn. The "Park, Reverse Neutral and Drive" gears do not light up but you can still change gears. Sometimes they light up in the beginning when you start the care and then they go off after several seconds. Then as I was driving back to where I was staying in my hotel I was driving up a hill and the car goes only about 30-40 mph. I have the gas pedal to the floor with no acceleration whatsoever. Seems like the care has no power. Any ideas or solution please help me!!!

If you are "stuck in the Mountains", then it would be relatively dangerous to go back down if the vehicle's computer senses any malfunction in the braking system. Even your emergency brakes are also giving a warning. Since your vehicle is experiencing multiple malfunctions, either the sensors are reading wrong inputs, there is something really big wrong with the car or the car's computer is having a glitch. If even after performing the below listed steps and the warnings are still there and/or you are not comfortable with the brakes, then it perhaps would be wise to seek qualified professional assistance and consider alternative ways of going back down.

In most cars, the on board computer could be reset by removing the negative terminal of the battery. Some requires that this be done with the ignition turned ON but engine not running. Likewise, there are some car stereos that will go into protective mode (security lock) when the battery terminals are removed and would require a "code".

On the brake, pls look under your vehicle, there could be sensors that were disconnected. For the brakes, they would normally be at the back of each wheel. Additonally, parking brake lights would also come on if the brake fluid level is below minimum or if the brake pads have reached a pre-determined level of thickness (or thinness in this case).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

The car is nearing the service time. this is programmed into the brain box(computer) to let the driver know that it needs serviceing. Changing timing belt, oil, fuel injection system etc. What you basically need to to is

1.) take the car in to the service station And have it serviced then the error codes cleared and the machine reset

2.) Get an autodiagnostic tool (OBD 2 ) hook it up to your car, clear all error codes, then reset the service time ,, then you drive off.. If you dont have the tool or dont want to buy one as its damn expensive simply hire a technician (AUTO TECHNICIAN not a AUTO mechanic) to do it for you..

In any case before that car can move you need to have the codes cleared or have the car towed..

It could have a blown fuse if the lights you mention are not working, that same fuse might be causing the other failures in your car as well.
Check all the fuses if you can not find the one that could be defective.

Just had plugs, wires and bottom gasket leak fixed. Car cranked next day, several hrs. later, wouldn't start.mechanic came and jumped it off, said alternator was getting too hot. Next day cranked, drove to...

That would make sense, because when he jumped your car if he left it hooked up for awhile. Then he charged your battery up, so it started the next day. Then you drove to his shop and back it ran the battery down. It's easy enough to test and change alternators you could take it to autozone or O'Reillys if there is one close they can test your alternator. If you have more questions about this or if you would like to try and change it yourself just reply to this post and I will walk you through it.
