My car would not start and was hard to jump off so I bought a battery about three days ago. It has ran fine ever since now the car is dead again first time jumped off fast until I turned on lights as soon as I did the car went dead. It has sat on the charge and now is taking forever to crank. Could this be the alternator or a fuse problem? Please help.

Get yourself a Haynes manaul. They are a gold mine of info for $20.

Changing an alternator is not that difficult. Two bolts and a wire connection to disconnect/connect. I left the alternator belt in place on the remaining pulleys and slipped the new alternator on to it in lieu of taking the belt all the way off.

Get yourself a Haynes manaul. Lots of great info for $20 and it will walk you thru the process.

Changing an alternator is pretty simple. Two bolts and one wire connection.

I left the belt in place and slipped the old alternator off and the new one on without removing the belt completely.

2001 ford taurus power draining new battery & new alternater won't work when cables are removed from battery

That suggests that the problem is in the harness, something in the connector or wiring is causing an open circuit. You will need to have the circuit tested to find the fault. Ford alternators have known connector issues & new aftermarket connectors are readily available at most auto parts stores.

My daughter just bought a 2000 Blazer, the battery light is on all the time, the mechanic has looked at everything, cant figure it out. Any suggestions?

That battery light means that the alternator is not charging like it should.Take a multimeter and check voltage at the alternator with the engine running it should be 14-14.6 volts. If its not within specs replace alternator.

Hi steve61380, If there are any aftermarket electronics installed in the vehicle like stereo equipment (cd changers, amps etc.), or an HHO cell, or performance electronics like high energy ignition system they could be overloading the stock alternator. Hope this helps.

the voltage regulator is inside of the alternator so that would be a faulty alternator. check your positive battery connection at the battery. i'm sure you disconnected the negative when you replaced the alternator. these have a bad tendancy to rot off the connection at the positive side. this is not for sure what's wrong but it's a place to start. if not, then remove the alternator, return it to the place of purchase, and have them bench test it. it would not be the first part to fail right out of the box. good luck!

It sounds like your alternator is bad. East way to confirm, take it to local auto parts store (IE: Autozone, Advance, etc) and have them do a FREE charging system test. Couple of thoughts; you have two new batteries and your poor alternator has to work twice as hard. After you put new batteries in, you've been running on straight battery power. Alternator normally runs all your electronics and recharges battery(s) but if Alt has gone "south" then you're on straight battery power.

Battery keeps draining

if your battery died while driving and the car cut off while your driving,, your problem is from your alternator!!!,, on a normal working car, you can start, remove ther battery terminals and the car would still run cause the alternator will be powering the car. In your case the alternator isnt working and the car was working on battery power therefore when the battery went dead the car cut off.. Your alternator need \s to be charging between 13.5 and 14.2 volts.. as little as 10 volts will keep the vehicle running.. I'd suggest you have the alternator replaced.

Battery light still on after changing alternator and battery.

Did you check the fuses? Are your cables to the battery corroded? Is your ground wire connection clean . Did you get a cheap-*** alternator? Did they check it where you bought it? You may have to have it checked at a napa or other store. Sometimes "reconditioned" means "repainted"
Hey, I've been there. If its a discount store alternator get another place to check it. May save you some grief.
