This could be a factory wire harness problems, generally over time the plugs ie connections get warm and tend to crack causing shorts which can lead to electrical fires i would check all connetores under dash and on main harness in engine compartment for discoloration which is a good indicator of a problem.

Surging problem on an alternator

If the voltage varies a lot or the lights change brightness, then the voltage regulator in the alternator is bad. Left unchecked, instrument lights and any other light bulb can burn out including head lights and brake lights. It can fry automatic ac controls, destroy the radio etc. Get your alternator replaced quickly.

What charges a 98 ford escort alternator?

That could be a bad battery. Try replacing the battery (cheaper than a new alternator). Usually, if it is the alternator, your battery will be drained and you aren't able to start the car without boosting. The dimming lights is the clue - lights run purely off the battery, not the alternator, as do most of the electric components.

My tib's lights flash interior and head lights i had my alternator replaced but since the my car idles too my battery was boiling and smoking its almost like it is overcharging my cars electrical

I'd be taking my car back to whoever installed that alternator. Sounds like a bad voltage regulator, and you should be hoping the battery was the only casualty of that.

That would also make your lights flicker as those power surges shot through the battery and rest of the car. Check all the wiring to the starter and alternator from the battery, and also the battery ground. Rotted wires will be apparent now after that kind of problem, and if so then NOW is the time to replace them.

That's not unusual with electrical parts. They can fail with no symptoms. And your symptoms say it is indeed a bad alternator.
