Question about 1995 Geo Prizm
At about 130K miles had no a/c problems. Just recently replaced the timing belt and I don't know if it is conicidental or not, but about 300 miles after that, the a/c started acting up. The a/c will run cold until about 15-20 minutes of driving and then it will shut itself off. This happens every time, regardless of whether the a/c is running or not for those 15-20 mins prior...it won't work after the engine has been on for that length of time. In Arizona, in the middle of July, this is torture! I took the car in and diagnostics were run...no problems were found...no leaks, no frion issues, etc. The mechanic took the car for a test drive and of course the a/c was ice cold...because he had not driven it around for the length of time that makes it shut itself off.
You may have one of 2 things going on, first the AC compressor cycling switch ( located in the low pressure AC line) is sticking open, and the 2nd the field coil for the AC compressor clutch goes open when hot. When it quits get a 12 volt test light and see if the AC compressor has power to it. Hope this helps
