Question about 1992 Mitsubishi Mirage

1 Answer

Spurting oil I just changed the oil and filter in my 1992 Mirage, and I see oil spurting out when the car is running. All the new oil is leaking out. Is this a problem with a seal? Is it expensive to repair? Can you send me a diagram and advise? Thank you, Kareb

Where is it leaking from? Right at the drain plug, or around the filter, or somewhere else? If it's the drain plug, go to the parts store and ask for a new oil drain plug crush washer - most cars have them, and it's not a bad practice to change them every other oil change. If it's around the filter, either the filter isn't tight enough, or it may be leaking due to the process you used - did you dip your finger in the new oil and rub some onto the gasket at the top of the oil filter? That's a necessary step to ensure the filter seals against its mount. It's also a good idea to clean up the mating surface where the filter seats, so that you can be as sure as possible that you will have the best seal that you can.

Which seal? There are quite a few seals and gaskets on various parts of the engine. Some are easy to reach, like the gasket on the bottom of the oil fill cap, and some require removal of major parts of the car, such as the rear main seal (which requires removing the transmission).

Chevy Tahoe 2000 Z71 won't start!

Just for the record, its a throttle body not a carb.
Sounds like the injectors are not getting power or a ground signal from the computer.
You would check them with a meter or low voltage test light.

I have oil all over the hose behind the engine. Not sure if it's the hose or the engine that is spurting oil.

Check the motor oil and coolant level and top them off when the engine is cold.
Place a white card board on the ground to catch fluid while you idle the engine for few minutes.
If it's motor oil then come out of the rear main seal. The oil will leak out on the lowest spot (WHERE ENGINE MEET the transmission)
If it's coolant then it will be green and the leak can come the heater core hoses (inlet / outlet) or freeze plugs.
Ran the car for few minutes to catch a larger sample of the leaking fluid.
