My ABS light stays on - 1999 Ford Windstar

    Puzzling?? 1999 ford windstar. ABS light is on / odometer is all dashes / speedometer does not work but tachometer does / rear fan is on high even though rear control is off. Keeps blowing the 10 amp ABS fuse under dash.



    Any thoughts?

Guest, thanks for the info. I replaced the brake pressure deactivation switch (for the cruise control) and everything is back to normal.

The Ford dealer told me to hold on to the receipt in case they recall them.

If the abs and traction light both come on at the same time and maybe a flashing o/d light then I would recommend a speed sensor is bad and it is the one that is hard to get at on the top of the tranny .

Cal ask. 1999 Ford Windstar. ABS and Trac off light comes on. Check brake fluid and it was considerably low. Fill to max level. Both lights still comes on when driving.

We have freezing conditions and i was driving so slow and the wheel started to spin, thats when the ABS Light came on. Now one hour later off again and hopefully will stay like that!!!!

Guys the emc computer done me this way raplaced and no problies do a google sreach on this type in ford recall and you see what can happen to this van its junk i have well never have i ford aging

Not totally sure but had very similar problem. Don't have rear fan but everything else happened the same. There is a cruise control deactivation switch on Windstar that is being recalled in other Fords but not Windstar. They get really hot and can even cause a fire. If your's has never been replaced it is right under the master cylinder. Try unplugging it. If you take it out a little brake fluid will drip out the hole, so only do it if you have a new one. They are really cheap. It might still happen after you fix it though cuz the heat could have damaged a lot of sensitive electronics. Sorry, hope that helps

Sounds like a fault with the Antilock Braking System. The vibration in the pedal is the ABS working. With your foot on the brake pedal, it releases and re-applies the brakes to stop a skid from the wheels locking up. You need professional service for brakes.

Seems to be a known issue on all Cadillac and requires the ABS module to be replaced.

My abs light stays on on my ford focus


when the ABS light stays on it means there is a fault present in the ABS system and the ABS has been disabled, as long as the light is on u just have regular brakes with no ABS, there are many thinbgs that can turn the light on, most common is one of the wheel speed sensors is defective, since these sensors are about $75-100 each and there are 4 of them guessing is a poor idea, so what u need to do is have the ABS systwem tested, there will be a fault code present to help narrow down the defective part or wiring.

Check to see if your brake pads and rotors are in good condition. Or if you have replaced the pads yourself and have not reset the wheel sensors this would cause the ABS Antilock Brake System light and the ASC Automatic Stability Control light to stay on as the ASC uses the ABS brakes with computer assistance to control the car

Have you checked your brake fluid? It may be low or an indication that the brake pads are worn, causing the light to stay on.

For the security light you need to replace the ignition lock cylinder or bypass the security system. For the other two, you need to have the car scanned to see what codes are in the ecm and the abs module.
