The only tool would be to evacuate and recharge the ac system, the system is under high pressure and if not evacuated it will spray out and you will also loose alot of the oil and may cause injury, beside that there are no other specail tools needed to remove it,

Serpintine belt

if the ac is not working then if you leave it switched off there will be no need to get a special belt to by-pass it. The pulley on the ac compressor is just an idler pulley that only turns the compressor when there is current to the clutch in the pulley. IF you never use the ac the pulley just spins . The problem with special belts is if they fail (and they do ) it will be where/ when you cannot get a special belt but you will always get a proper belt from any spares store or garage.

How do I remove the AC compressor on a 1997 Ford Aerostar?

You must remove the engine cooling fan (requires special tool) and the fan shroud, I have done about 100 of these and once those parts are removed it is easy to get at.

Greetings, My 1997 Lincoln Town Car's A/C compressor clutch just went out with a shower of sparks and a cloud of smoke. I stopped and poured water on it to cool it down. Question: Do I need to replace...

You can replace just the clutch. You will need a special puller to remove the clutch, it screws to the front of the compressor and presses it off. I believe the same tool is used to install it, also. Not completely sure on that point. The tool may be able to be rented from an auto parts store, or may be available on eBay for a reasonable price.

Can i replace ac clutch without removing ac compressor on 97 achieva with 3.1 engine

The only thing that would prevent you from doing so, would be the ammount of room in front of compressor that you will need for the tools. Other than that shure.
