Change license plate lite, how to - 1994 Cadillac DeVille

I doubt if a dome lite and license plate lite are on the same circuit. License plate is usually on tail lite circuit and dome on another circuit. I would start by checking ALL the fuses in the fuse panel or panels. Many cars have two or more and some are hidden. Had a Park Ave that you had to remove glove box to find one

License Plate Lamp Removal and Installation

1. If necessary, remove the license plate.

1. Remove the pin-type retainers and the luggage compartment lid trim panel.

1. Disconnect the license plate lamp electrical connector.

1. Remove the lamp socket from the license plate lamp.

1. Using a suitable tool, through the access hole, release the clips and remove the license plate lamp.

The licence plate light and the stop light incidentally, are generally on separate circuits.

The license plate lights have their own separate bulbs. If you are able to replace the bulbs, that may solve your problem. If not, you may have a loose or rusted connection to the plate bulbs only. the license light uses the same fuse as the tail lights. if you have not license light then it may be the bulb or a bad wire for the light from where it branches of the tail light wire.

License Plate Lamp Removal & Installation To Remove:

1. Remove the luggage compartment lock cylinder.
2. Remove the luggage compartment door garnish molding.
3. Release the retainers and remove the license plate lamp assembly.
4. Disconnect the harness electrical connector.

To Install:

1. Connect the harness electrical connector.
2. Engage the retainers and install the license plate lamp assembly.
3. Install the luggage compartment door garnish molding.
4. Install the luggage compartment lock cylinder.

You have to pry underneath the outer left plastic edge of the light with a small precision flat screwdriver to hit the tab thing on the left inside and push towards the right, then pull light housing outwards. You can see the tab through the clear lens. if you have a license plate frame, you will need to remove that first.

To Remove:
Remove or disconnect the following:

1. License plate
2. Pin-type retainers and the luggage compartment lid trim panel
3. License plate lamp electrical connector
4. Lamp socket from the license plate lamp
5. Using a suitable tool, through the access hole, release the clips and remove the license plate lamp

To Install:

1. Install or connect the following:
2. License plate lamp
3. Lamp socket to the license plate lamp
4. Electrical connector
5. Luggage compartment lid trim panel
6. License plate

The license plate lights are in the ledge above the license plate. 2 screws keep the lens cover in place. Remove the screws, and the cover comes off. Just pull the lamp out (wedge base) and replace.
