Question about Chevrolet Suburban 1500

1 Answer

On a 96 suburban, I am only getting 8.18 volts for the fuel pump at the last connector before the tank, the one mounted on the frame rail just above and in front of the tank. This is with a new AC Delco rely installed. The voltage before replacing the relay was 8.36 volts, so the relay is probably not the problem, but maybe someone has some other ideas?

You do not test a fuel pump just measuring voltage. Due to its low impedence, your DMM may indicate battery voltage at the
pump. But a voltage drop test may reveal that something less than
battery voltage is actually reaching the pump when the circuit is
    loaded.
The 8.5 value was ok, here is how to test pump in a serious way.

Keeps blowing fuel pump fuses. any ideas why?

Hi well im assuming that this is something that has just started , the first thing you need to do is start at the basics, get under the truck and go to the fuel tank. try to access the fuel pump connector (4 wire connector on top of fuel tank) may be able to excess from area between the frame rail and tank on drivers side ,if that tank is a side mount tank. unplug this connector and try to install a fuse .. DONT INSTALL A LAGER FUSE THEN RECOMMENDED OR HARNESS DAMAGE MY AND WILL ACCUR . If the fuse stays intact u most probably have a shorted fuel pump

Is the fuel filter on my 98' plymoth breeze inside or outside the gas tank? and do i need to drop the tank to remove it?

On the Cirrus, Stratus, Breeze and Sebring convertible, a frame-mounted fuel filter is located on the frame rail,
above the rear of the fuel tank.

Here is some information from a repair guide...

Where is the fuel pump on a 1990 dodge dakota

Fuel pump is in fuel tank,as in almost all vehicles for the last 30 years!!!
You can see the top of yours, looking above the frame rail, and across the top of tank
May want to remove bed bolts, except rear ones, and tip up bed.
Your not getting the tank straps off,too rusted, and no parts.

Where is the fuel pump in a 86 lincoln town car located

inside the gas tank, and also onthe driver side frame rail under the car under the driver door hindge inside the frame rail with a plastic cover over it held on with a hose clamp and held to the frame with a self threading bolt that has a 13MM head. has a fuel line ( plastic ) comingout ofboth ends and a 2 wire electrical connector. The tank pump is in the front side of the tank and with the car jacked up by the body it's just above the rear axel and can be removed with the tank still mounted to the car.. The tank needs to be level and less than 1/2 full orr the fuel will come out as the tank is opened. some cars have only the tank pump, and none on the frame.

Is there an access panel to the fuel pump on a 2002 ford excursion

FOR DIESELS=The fuel pump is located on the frame rail on the drivers side of 2002 and newer models for sure. Some older models locate them above the fuel tanks and are a pain to get to. if you slide under the vehicle just behind the drivers door look up into the drivers side frame rail on the side of the frame rail that is closer to the center of the vehicle. it is wraped in a black foam boot and it has wires coming from it. you can see the fuel line coming out of either end. One leading back to the tank and one going towards the engine. fuel pumps on older models is located on top of the fuel tank. You must drop the tank in order to get to it FOR GAS= Check the frame rail. If not, so..sorry it's above the gas tank

I am trying to remove my fuel tank from a 96 chevy suburban and replace the fuel pump

ok i'm going to guess that you have a gasoline engine with a side tank like in a pickup truck. if you have a diesel let me know, things might be a little different. here's the step by step for a gas side tank. before you start, disconnect the battery negative cable.
1. drain the fuel from the tank (they don't tell you how, just get as much out as you can)
2.raise and safely support vehicle (get it high enough that you can get under it to work on it)
3.loosen the fuel neck hose at fuel neck and disconnect filler neck from tank
4.support tank and remove tank support straps and insulator strips
5.remove frame mounted bracket
6.lower fuel tank shield
7.lower fuel tank enough to gain access to fuel and electrical connections
8.disconnect fuel feed and vapor hoses
9.disconnect electrical connectors
10.remove fuel sender assembly and seal ring
now to install new tank
1.install NEW seal ring and install sender
2.raise tank enough to connect fuel feed /vapor hoses and electrical connector
3.raise tank fully
4.install fuel tank shield
5.connect fuel tank filler neck and tighten clamp
CAUTION tighten fuel strap fasteners in steps, alternating between straps, until proper torque is reached. failure to properly follow this step can cause bottom of tank to deform. fuel gauge may read improper level if this occurs
6.install fuel tank brackets and insulator strips
torque nuts to 115 in-lbs
7.install fuel tank filler cap
8.connect battery negative cable
9.turn ignition switch off and on and check for leaks
it's pretty much the same for rear tank, just different location, may have off-road shield in back and torque spec is 47 ft-lbs, not 115 in-lbs. you still have to alternate when you torque straps or you risk deforming tank. hope that helps
