My brake lights keep going out - I've replaced the bulbs, and it keeps happening every few weeks. Must be a fuse or relay problem. I can't figure out which fuse handles the brake lights.

2001 chevy tracker ,what would cause the fuse for brake lights to blow? already tried unplugging wire harness to back of car at fuse block.

This all depends, if the fuse blows as soon as you put it in without stepping on the brake pedal then theres a dead short in the fuse box or the power wire going to the brake switch is shorting out, this 15amp fuse runs from the fuseox to brake light switch, so the short is between that but if it blow with brake pedal pushed then you said you dissconnect the rear brake light at fuse box and fuse still blows so the next step inwhich power is feed from this fuse is the following and you will need to unhook these components one at a time until short is gone. the next location is the the abs brake control module which is by the master cylinder area after that it goes to the cruise contorl servo also under the hood, then it goes to the shifter release solenoid which is very common problem, the wires melt or short out in that area, and next it goes to computer which i dont think is the problem and from there it feeds the rear lights and third brake light. hope this helps, good day.

Hello deezeesmeyo
Check fuse# 42 a 20amp fuse in the fuse block located under the hood on the right side of the engine compartment. If the fuse is ok, check the stoplight switch located under the left side of the
dash on the brake peddle bracket. Hope this is helpful.

Trying to find the fuse location for the left rear brake lights

The entire brake light system has, at best, one fuse. In fact, the fuse that the brake light current flows through probably feeds more than just the brake lights.

If the same filament is used for brake light and turn signal, the power to the brake lights goes through the turn signal switch. When turning, the brake light power is disconnected from that light by the TS switch, and the flasher is connected to that light instead. So a bad TS Switch can fail to reconnect the brake light power to that light.

If there is a separate light or lens for the TS and the brake light, that doesn't apply.

I can't get my brake lights to work on my 1995 chevy monte carlo? any suggestions?

first check your fuse, usually if the brake light switch goes bad, the lights remain on, If all three of your brake lights are out, then it would generally be fuse related. On that year, I believe the fuse panel is located under the dash to the left of your steering wheel

Where is the fuse for the brakes on the 2001 Buick Regal?

are you having a problem with burnt out brake light bulbs or they are not working when you are appling the brakes? If you installed new bulbs it maybe the brake light switch that is bad. The switch is located on the brake pedal bracket above the pedal. you can test the switch with an ohm meter to see if continuity goes through it. If not when the button is pushed inward the switch is bad. Bulbs for the brakes have filaments like a fuse. When they burn out no continuity goes through it just like a fuse would.

Brake lights won't work.

Check the brake switch. It is located done by the brake pedal. The power goes from the fuse, through the brake switch, then to the bulbs.
