Just purchased a used '05 Mustang V6 and seeing a similar problem where the speedometer works fine most of the time but occasionally sticks. Thoughts?

What year is the Mustang, makes a big difference, older Stangs have cable driven speedo, newer ones are electronic.

If the remaing gauges continue to work when the Speedo stops working or sticks its most likely a stepper motor. I repaired an Ford 05 speedo just recently and that was the problem. Parts and Labor came to 149.00. You can E-Mail me at Alheg1@msn.com if you have other questions.

Why did my 99 dodge grand caravans speedometer stop working?

Best guess :Check the speed sensor on the transmission, these fail.

Hey Todd I have a 2005 5.7 dodge magnum and it won't change gears as i speed up while driving also speedometer stopped working

EASY ONE.... Your VSS (Vehicle SPEED SENSOR) stopped working and it is this Sensor that gives the PCM/ECM the information to change gears. Once you change your VSS, and get it working, the Transmission will start working again...

I am Assuming that the Transmission stopped working at the same time the Speedometer did? Is that right?

If it is, then this is a easy fix. 1 bolt and one Wire Connector and DONE....

THE SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING WHEN IT GETS HOT ON MY 2004 TRAIL BLAZER THANKS.

If everything else works ok, the vehicle drives normally, and all the other gauges are working then you may have a bad speedometer servo motor. This servo is what actually moves the speedometer needle to match the speed you are driving at. The cluster would need to come out and be repaired to fix this problem if this is the case.

Speedometer stopped working while driving - no longer registers

This has happened on our van multiple times. Through some internet searches I have found a solution that works.

Go to your van and, with the ignition off, press and hold the trip reset button. You will see 'Sof' and perhaps some diagnostic test numbers will show up on odometer; the unit will perform a self-test, and the system will do a reset and should it should operate normally.

Cheers!

Speedometer/tach stopped working

There are 2 sensors on the engine that sent a signal to the computor and speedometer and tach. When one of these goes bad it can make the speedometer and tach go all over the place and also just stop working. This can also cause all types of engine running problems because the information being sent to the PCM will be incorrect all so. The units are easy to replace once you find them, it seems that they are located in different areas of the engine with each year the vehicle was put out.
