Loud noise near the alternator

The engine is now very loud. I brought it into a dealer. They said the engine hood was making this noise and said they fixed it. Now the loud noise is coming from in or near the belt on the left side. I shut the air conditioner off to make sure it was not that.

No I have a noise coming from left side while idling I popped hood and tried to trace where its coming from.....there's the cable from the alternator to the battery when I touch it I could now feel the knocks coming from that cable so its probably a problem with the alternator I haven't experienced a dead battery yet so it still works but don't know for how long

It's the a/c compressor making the noise. Took me 5 minutes to find it, it's louder when it gets wet . I've dropped small amount of oil between the shield plate and the compressor. Stops squealing until it rains again. Don't know a permanent fix I'm trying to find that myself. Just to be sure pull the hand brake place it in drive and turn on your a/c, that's how I found the problem.

Loud rattling sound top of engine near or below the alternator when idling, goes away if accelerator is pressed

Hello: Remove the serpentine belt, see if the waterpump pulley wobbles/makes noise when you spin it. If thats not it then start the engine, belt still off see if noise is there also while engine is running see if vthe crankshaft pulley wobbles. Also check the A/C compressor pulley (engine off, belt off) spin it by hand and check for noise and wobble. If all the previous is ok then it could be the balance shaft front bearing and or the timing chain.

Try slipping the drive belt (fan belt, alternator belt, or whatever you want to call it) off the engine, then run the engine momentarily without the belt. If the noise disappears, at least you now know it is not an internal engine problem, and it will be an issue with one of the pulleys, or belt-driven accessories.

Only when it is hot out a loud humming noise starts in the engine

I suggest that you open the hood (when the engine is hot) and try to pinpoint the source of the noise. Check the power steering pump- these sometimes make a noise that could be described as a hum or whine. The alternator and belt idler or tensioner are other things to check. An automotive-type stethoscope might be useful for tracking down the noise.

Van wont start, loud, has a burning smell and the oil light is on

I'd feel best if you can find a reputable mec and have it looked at. There are a mess of things that can make loud noise. You could have anything from a bad berring to a blown engine. When your'e on the road remember go to someone who is reccomended or a national chain or dealer..

My 97 328i is making a loud noise & half the electrical is off

the loud noise is most likely to be a belt tensioner bearing or alternator bearing you must isolate the sound,as for the lights check your fuses and gauge cluster wire harness sometimes unplugging them gives them better connection. hope this helps you.

97 Lexus Es300 noise under the hood by alternator

mcdevito75 here, If you have 1 continuous belt on the engine (serpentine) then the belt could be worn or the tension pully holding the belt tight could be going bad. No noise in Neautral or Park as increased engine speed in these gears over rides the worn part and thus no noise. On a cold engine examine the belt, look for frays / wear from where the belt rides the pullys. If the belt is 2 years old, Change it.

Loud Sqeaul/screech from engine upon start up

could be your alternator. at start up. alternator usually has a big load because you just use your starter. it would recharge the battery and after a while the battery would be fully charge, the squealing noise will be gone.

check also all the belts if they are individual belts. use some belt dressings to eliminate the noise. sometimes the belt are just worn out and it would also make these noises.

tnx 4 using fixya,
