Excessive gas usage, Code PO455 - large leak in evaportive system

I have inspected all cannisters and the evaportive emission control valve underneath the vehicle near the cannisters as well as changed the gas cap.

Any ideas regarding cause?

Thanks,

Monty

You have a vaccum leak somewhere, try the map sensor vaccum or the EGR Control valve vaccum

What hoses do I check for check engine light code Po455

DTC P0455 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) System Large Leak
The control module tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a large leak. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor signal to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. When the conditions for running are met, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve OPEN and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve CLOSED . This allows engine vacuum to enter the EVAP system. At a calibrated time, or vacuum level, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve closed, sealing the system, and monitors the FTP sensor input in order to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. If the system is unable to achieve the calibrated vacuum level, or the vacuum level decreases too rapidly, this DTC sets.
There's more to it that just checking a hose ! Smoke testing the EVAP system is the best way to find leaks .
  1. Inspect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System for the following conditions:
  2. ?€¢
A loose, missing, or damaged service port schrader valve

    ?€¢
A loose, incorrect, missing, or damaged fuel fill cap

    ?€¢
A damaged EVAP canister purge solenoid valve

  3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Inspect the EVAP system for the following conditions:
?€¢
Any disconnected, improperly routed, kinked, or damaged EVAP pipes and hoses

?€¢
A damaged EVAP canister vent solenoid valve or EVAP canister

Your best bet is take your vehicle to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer , where they have the tools an knowledge .

Why is my 2010 ford fusion is throwing code po455. no gas cap required

P0455 is Evaporative Emissions System Leak Detected (Large) and means that there is a large leak in the system probably with one of the EVAP hoses near the fuel tank or EVAP canister or maybe even A leaky purge valve.

Po455 trouble code, seems like all the hoses are good. Sometimes goes away for a week sometimes a few hours, any ideas?

P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)

This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.

Causes: A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

Possible Solutions: With a p0455, the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Test, check it and keep us updated.

Code po455 engine light, replaced gas cap, replaced missing bolt on cap that houses air filter. not registering a o2 bank. whats with this pcv valve or ftp control module. is this what i need to have...

it sounds like you have a problem with the evap system which has to do with emissions for the fuel vapour system so raw fuel vapours won`t vent to the atmosphere and instead is drawn into and burnt by the motor.there is hoses, control valves, vent valves, canister, purge valves, gas cap, any one of these could be the problem.you will have to have the system tested at a shop to find the cause of the problem.

Large leak?... Fuel Cap not tight or the wrong one is installed. Also, the charcoal canister close valve may be stuck 'open' AND/OR the purge control solenoid valve may be stuck 'closed.'

I had two problems posted for my Ford Explorer 1998 P1400 Differential Press Feedback EGR Circuit low input Po455 Mod $10 3/4 EVAP EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM LEAK (LARGE) How can I fix it and how can I go...

CODE PO455 EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED.POSSIBLE CAUSE - CANISTER VENT SOLENOID STUCK OPEN OR.FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR HAS FAILED MECHANICALLY.OR BAD FUEL CAP. CODE PO1400 -DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FEED BACK EGR SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE DETECTED.POSSIBLE CAUSE -DPF EGR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND OR DPF EGR SIGNAL VREF CIRCUIT OPEN OR DPF EGR SENSOR IS DAMAGED OR HAS FAILED.I WOULD HAVE GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP TO USE THEIR DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO CHECK OUT YOUR EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM.AND EGR VALVE BECAUSE PARTS IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO BUY.IF YOU DONT NEED THEM.SEE YOU CAN REPLACE THE DPF EGR SENSOR AND THE CANISTER VENT SOLENOID.BUT IT COULD BE A LEAKING GAS CAP OR SOMETHING ELSE.SO LET GARAGE CHECK IT OUT.TO BE ON SAFE SIDE.NOW YOU CAN BUY THOSE 2 SENSORS AND IT COULD FIX YOUR RIDE.I KNOW MONEY IS TIGHT ECONOMY IS IN BAD SHAPE.
