Question about 2000 Ford F350 Super Duty Super Cab

Brakes after repairs on our 2000 regal motorhome as above 2000 ford F350 front brakes pads at 90% new rotors, new calipers, rear brakes checked with 70% still left parking brake goes right to the floor, mecanic said they are selfadjusting and he can't do anymore to it. When parking brake is on while in nutural it runs down the grade. I was also told the regal motorhome mounted on the truck is too heavy and that ford in general has braking problems We have had a regal before and did not have any of those problems. I really could use some assistance and thank you for your help.

Dear Sir/madam,

If the belt has more than an inch of play (which can be checked bypushing on it with your thumb in a suspended section) it should bereplaced.

Far more likely however, is that the brake system needs to be serviced.From the sounds of it, at the very least, the brake fluid need to beflushed and replaced (which will bleed all the air out of the lines:most common culprit of what you describe) I would also recommendchecking and replacing the brake pads.

There is one other area that u have check. Its a long shot, but sometimesthe brake, clutch (if equipped), and gas pedal mounting assembly flexeswhere it connects to firewall and dash. Look up in there and see youhave cracking in the supports where the brake pedal is mounted.

There may be air in the hydraulic system; fluid leak in master cylinder (past primary cup); hose or line leak in system; or the rear brakes misadjusted.

How much should it cost to replace calipers and pads on a 2005 6cyl 2wd 4 Runner?


If they order the parts from rockauto its about $630-700 in parts. $50-60 front and rear brake pads, $ 100 -115 2 better front rotors, $100 for better rear rotors, $90 for each rear caliper, 100-125 per front caliper, $10 for each rubber brake line. (The caliper prices include a core fee that you would get back $30-40 per caliper returning the old caliper, but you pay the shipping fees). The ballpark prices also include the additional shipping costs. Labor should be around 2-2.5hrs. So depending on the shop it would be $50-60/hr so total cost $100-150 for the labor. So total would be somewhere around $730-850. You can just have the one caliper replaced, you do not need to replace them all. I would get new rotors on whichever axle (front or rear) the stuck caliper is on and not get the rotors cut, because the faulty caliper could have warped the rotor. Another possibility is that it could just need a new rubber brake line. When my calipers locked on one of my classic trucks, I just replaced the old rubber line and it was good to go. -Fawkes

How do you replace the front and rear brakes in a 2003 pontiac Grand Prix


Removal & Installation Front To Remove:
  1. Inspect the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Remove fluid from the reservoir until the level is lower then half way between the MAX and MIN levels.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. Install 2 wheel nuts to secure the rotor on the hub.
  4. Remove the bottom brake caliper pin bolt.
  5. Pivot the brake caliper body upward and secure out of the way. Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper.
  6. Compress the piston back into the bore using a C-clamp. Figure of brake assembly with caliper raised showing brake pads in mounting bracket gmpc_l4.gif

  7. Remove the inboard and outboard brake pads from the brake caliper bracket.
To Install:
  1. Install the brake pad retainers and both brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  2. Pivot the brake caliper down over the brake pads and into the brake caliper bracket. Insert the lower brake caliper pin bolt and torque bolt to 70 ft-lb. (95 Nm).
  3. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Refill the master cylinder. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the pads against the rotor.
  6. Check the master cylinder level and add fluid as necessary.
Rear To Remove:

  7. Remove the brake pad clips from the caliper bracket.
  8. Compress the piston back into the bore using a C-clamp and the old inner pad.
To Install:
  1. Install new brake clips in the caliper bracket.
  2. Install the inboard and outboard pads in the caliper bracket.
  3. Pivot the caliper up over the pads.
  4. Reinstall the upper mounting bolt and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  5. Remove the 2 wheel nuts securing the rotor.
  6. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly.
  7. Refill the master cylinder. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the pads against the rotor.
  8. Check the master cylinder level and add fluid as necessary.

Replace rear brake pads


Rear disc brake pads offer better performance and are not as affected by moisture like conventional brake shoe style brakes are. Rear disc brakes are similar to front disc brakes. The main difference is that rear disc brake systems must incorporate the emergency brake system. There are two methods widely used for the emergency brake with rear disc systems. The first system is a brake shoe inside the brake disc that is actuated by the emergency brake lever. The second is a screw style actuator inside the brake caliper. When activated the brake pads are forced into the brake disc and held tightly by the emergency brake lever.
READ COMPLETELY BEFORE STARTING
Step 1 - Identify Rear Disc Brake Components

Step 2 - Removing the Rear Brake Caliper Mount Bolts
rear_brake_pads_2.jpg To replace rear brake pads and rotors the rear brake caliper needs to be removed. First loosen the rear brake caliper mount bolts and remove them. Turn counter clockwise.
Step 3 - Lift Rear Brake Caliper from The Caliper Mount
rear_brake_pads_3.jpg After the caliper mount bolts have been removed, gently lift the brake caliper from the caliper mount. Inspect the caliper slides; they should move freely in the caliper mount. Remove rear brake pads and hardware.

Step 4 - Removing Caliper Mount Bolts
rear_brake_pads_4.jpg With a socket wrench or other appropriate removal tool, loosen the rear brake caliper mounting bolts. Remove bolts and lift the caliper mount and remove it from the vehicle. Remove the retaining screw from the disc mounting hole. Tap the rotor gently to release any rust that has accumulated between the rotor and bearing hub. Lift brake rotor from wheel hub holding on tightly, using both hands. You do not want to drop the rotor.

Step 5 - Removing Rear Brake Rotor
rear_brake_rotor.jpg Remove the retaining screw from the disc mounting hole, tap the rotor gently to release any rust that has accumulated between the rotor and bearing hub. Lift brake rotor from wheel hub, hold on using both hands and do not drop.

Step 6 - Install New Brake Rotor
rear_brake_rotor_2.jpg Check the new rotor against the old brake rotor to make sure they are the same size. Clean the mating surface on the wheel hub before the new brake rotor is installed. Reinstall rotor retainer screw.
Step 7 - Reset Rear Brake Caliper
rear_brakes_7.jpg Before new brake pads can be installed, the rear brake caliper must be reset. The reset tool winds the piston back into position so the new brake pads will fit. This style of brake caliper will not compress with a clamp tool; it can only be reset with the proper reset tool.
Step 8 - Reinstall Rear Caliper Mount and Install New Rear Brake Pads
rear_brake_rotor_3.jpg After the caliper has been reset, reinstall caliper mounting bolts and make sure the bolts are tight. Then match up the old brake pads to the new brake pads. They should be exactly the same except, of course; the old ones will be worn out. Check the new brake pads for proper fit and install any brake hardware that is required.
Step 9 - Remount Rear Brake Caliper
rear_brake_rotor_4.jpg Reinstall the brake caliper, align brake pad hardware and reinstall caliper mounting bolts. (Note: align the rear peg of the brake pad to the groove in the caliper piston.) Recheck and retighten all caliper and caliper mount bolts. Bleed brake system to relieve any air in the system. Before driving the vehicle, push the brake pedal down and let it up slowly. This operation forces the brake pads to travel to the brake rotors. DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLE until proper brake pedal operation resumes. When test driving vehicle listen for any unusual noises during the operation of the brakes.
WARNING! Always have the vehicle under inspection on level ground, in park with the emergency brake on. Always wear protective eyewear, gloves and necessary clothing before inspection or work begins. Never crank an engine over when anyone is near the battery or engine. Always have an operational fire extinguisher close by, obey all first aid instructions in the event of an injury. Never stand in front or behind a vehicle when cranked over or running. When engine is cranked over keep hands and clothing away from rotating components. Never move a car without proper brake pedal operation.

you will see a saddle with two bolts, one on top and one on the bottom. Remove the two to gtet the calipers off. I do suggest to use a C clamp first with the old pads to compress the caliper piston all the way in before removing the calipers

most of the time if the pads drag on the rotors its a bad caliper, you had new calipers installed the it may be the proportional value that put the right amost of pressure to either front or back brakes ,the values are like 60 - 40 ,60 percent front 40 rear ,that might be the problem ,have it checked ,hope to help you, robert b.

Need rear brake pad and rotor replacement


Just the basics, Brake pads range from $25-65 depending on what kind of quality your looking for. If the brakes are grinding, you will need 2 rotors ranging from about $50-70 per wheel. On top of that, after you pull the wheels you will have to determine if the calipers are frozen or hanging up. Calipers on that truck run about $75 apiece. You didn't specify if it had ABS brakes so I based everything on standart disc brakes. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

Check for leaks in the brake lines and calipers or brake cylinders. If leaking have it repaired right away its not safe. Change the brake fluid, take the old fluid out add new fluid or have it professionally done.

2002 ford f350 deisel brakes pedal feels hard and dosnt stop verry good well driving. Brakes smell like they are burning when I stop. Just replaced front rotors,pads and calipers


You should have a hydraulic brake booster. a common failure item on fords and also would cause your symptom. the burning smell, I would go back and recheck all the brakes. Maybe a problem with the e-brakes, or an issue with the front or rear calipers. Possibly a damaged steel or high pressure brake line. Good luck.

Brakes on 2000 regal motorhome (F350 V10)


Last time I had a low brake pedal, the wrong front wheel bearings were installed. Ford Dealer did not want to own up to it, but put the right bearings in and all fixed.
Hand brakes?
The factory used a small diameter drum on the pickups (even though the main rear bake is a disk). The parking brake pedal has to do full travel to hold the truck. It is just a pedal, cable and shoes so something is wrong with one of them.
If this is a hand brake on the transmission, I don't know what to say except that it is still pretty simple.
