Question about Nissan Xterra

6 Answers

I plugged a code reader into my Xterra to see if it could help me locate an electrical problem I am having. The radio stopped working and the power outlets have low power. The error code PO328 showed up. Does this point me to the problem area. What is the circuit high imput bank? Is it the fuse board.

Circuit high input bank 1 or 2 is usually an Oxygen (O2)sensor.Ohms check the O2 sensors for continuity, inspect the electrical connectors. They can also be removed for a visual inspection to determine if the ends are carboned over, and replace if necessary. For the non functioning radio,i would check the radio fuse in the fusebox. Also check the cig lighter or power outlet fuse.Check battery terminals for tight and clean connections,as well as grounds for clean and tight connections.

try to check if you will be able to to remove the sensor, usually it is just below the throttle body on the block, check for corrosions, it can be massive. if it looks like it needs replacement no problem since it's less that 50 bucks

Yep, the knock sensor has nothing to do with car stereo, but you should have your engine tuned up by a mechanic, do again the scan and mention error code next time you go to the garage.
Regarding low power, I don't think it has got much to do with car computer, check your battery, and eventually replace it , check battery contacts, unplug them, clean, connect them back and grease them. If you get power problem again with new battery it means there is a short somewhere in the car that is draining battery and causing the problem.
Regarding the radio, there is also a fuse at the back of the radio, you need to slide out the stereo to see it.

I recently jumpex my car... 2000 xterra. Radio work fine but volume knob doesnt respond. No volume up or down and no sound at all..... help plz.

Check all your fuses under the dash and under the hood, replace any blown fuses you find. Sometime the car makers put 2 or 3 fuses in different locations for the same unit. If everything seems ok, then I'd say when you used jumper cables, if the radio was powered on at the time you may have blown the amplifier and it would be time to replace the radio.

2001 xterra (update) engine service soon is on

Hello, A lack of power can come from a multitude of problems and I will give you guidance and how to solve your problem. I would first change your oil and fuel filters and run some injector cleaner through your system to see if this helps your underpowerment. Next, I would do a tune up and replace your spark plugs and wires, oil and oil filter, rotary cap and button. You may have some faulty coil packs and possibly a fuel pump which is about to go out as well. I would try a mid grade or a higher grade of gasoline for your vehicle with the fuel injector cleaner, fuel filter, and air filter. If this does not solve the sputtering, Autozone offers free diagnostic of your electrical system and they will run a code check on your vehicle for free! I would be safe and guess this is just a clogged fuel filter or some corroded wires on your coil or your spark plugs so give your engine a good once over and this tune up. Yes, this can be a knock sensor as well to answer your problem and by knowing that I know you have enough mechanical knowledge to fix whatever is ailing your vehicle! The knock sensor senses when fuel is burning unevenly and causing "knocking" or irregular vibrations in the engine. I hope this helps you fix your problem!

Can't read codes with code reader

you most likley have a blown fuse. the fuse for the connector and cig lighter are usually on the same circuit . if you have a owner manuel check and see which fuse is for the obd/cig lighter. if you dont have a manuel then check every fuse in the box and see if you find a blown one. the plug whare the scanner connects is what powers the scanner so if you cant find a blown fuse then you know youre not getting power to the plug for some reason.

Radio not working

If you have recently changed the battery or lost power for any reason your radio may require an anti theft code, check your manual to see if this even applies to your vehicle. You may be able to find code behind the glove box in some cases. Or look up your vehicle online to see if any codes are posted. If the clock is working you have power.

2003 Xterra radio power dead

trace the wire back to the fuse box with a lighted 12V tester and if the fuse appears to be good, check the hot side of the fuse and go from their. You might have to find another hot point (key activated) to wire the stereo into with an inline fuse.
