Question about 2003 GMC Envoy
There are many, many resons for the check engine light to come on the dash. Just because a parts store reads the code for a certain system, does not mean to just go ahead and replace the part the code says. Many different things can affect any particular system. Replaceing and EGR- lets say, because of an EGR system code may not fix the problem. Anything from broken wires, computer programming update, to clogged passages, to a bad catalytic converter can cuase an EGR code. Tech JK

This is some emissions item like an EGR valve or something. Take your GMC to auto zone and they will test it for free and tell you what it is. Then decide if you want to pay the $50 or so for the part and do it yourself or have a friend help out.
A repair shop will cost you an extra $75 or so. Good luck

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy SLE. My Service Engine Light Keeps coming on. The Problem is with the gas cap. It must be on tightly. When my light comes on I make sure the cap is on securely. The light will usually go out the next day or two depending on how often you drive you truck. Hope this helps.

most ecu controlled vehicles have a 'limp home'mode if 2 or more fault codes are stored,it is designed to get your attention before damage is caused and to get you to the nearest w.shop to fix,i would have codes cleared and retest vehicle,it is the cheapest and 1st option for any shop, some late models even have excessive mileage past service interval in the 'limp' program
