Service Engine Light is constantly coming on. 1st time light came on Auto Zone checked it and it was the "coolant temp. sensor" that I needed. Got part and replaced entire sensor. Service Engine Light came on again, dealership did another diagnostic and said it was the "coolant temp. sensor", but they replaced it with the new one (last week). Why does my light keep coming on?

There are many, many resons for the check engine light to come on the dash. Just because a parts store reads the code for a certain system, does not mean to just go ahead and replace the part the code says. Many different things can affect any particular system. Replaceing and EGR- lets say, because of an EGR system code may not fix the problem. Anything from broken wires, computer programming update, to clogged passages, to a bad catalytic converter can cuase an EGR code. Tech JK

If a code p0410, this is for the secondary air injection system. This is an emissions controol system. Acommoon cause for this code is either a bad diverter valve, or the AIR pump has failed due to water intrusion. There is a factory bulletin for the water intrusion problem. This involves replacing the pump, and installing a new designed intake hose assembly.

This is some emissions item like an EGR valve or something. Take your GMC to auto zone and they will test it for free and tell you what it is. Then decide if you want to pay the $50 or so for the part and do it yourself or have a friend help out.
A repair shop will cost you an extra $75 or so. Good luck

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy SLE. My Service Engine Light Keeps coming on. The Problem is with the gas cap. It must be on tightly. When my light comes on I make sure the cap is on securely. The light will usually go out the next day or two depending on how often you drive you truck. Hope this helps.

most ecu controlled vehicles have a 'limp home'mode if 2 or more fault codes are stored,it is designed to get your attention before damage is caused and to get you to the nearest w.shop to fix,i would have codes cleared and retest vehicle,it is the cheapest and 1st option for any shop, some late models even have excessive mileage past service interval in the 'limp' program

I have a service engine soon light on and have hooked up an OBD11 reader to it and got code P0410 pertaining to a secondary air injection problem. hoses are fine, pump is new.

P0410 Oldsmobile - Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction

Possible causes: - Faulty Vacuum hoses damaged
- Faulty Air Pump inoperative
- Air bypass solenoid harness is open or shorted
- Air bypass solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Air bypass solenoid leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed
- Air diverter valve leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed

Tech notes: Visually inspect AIR pump and AIR bypass valve harness and connector, if connector are OK, then replaced AIR bypass valve.

When is the code detected? The secondary air injection system does not detect the presence of air in the exhaust when introduced by the secondary air injection system.

Possible symptoms: - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Engine hesitation

P0410 Oldsmobile Description An air pump is used on the vehicle to lower tail pipe emissions on start-up. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) grounds the Air pump relay control circuit which energizes the Air pump. The PCM also grounds the Air combination valve vacuum control solenoid circuit, which energizes the Air vacuum control solenoid. Vacuum is then applied to both Air combination valve diaphragms which opens the shut off valves. The PCM enables both circuits simultaneously when Air system operations id desired. When the AIR system is active, then Air pump forces fresh air into the exhaust stream in order to accelerate catalyst operation. The AIR combination valves replace the conventional check valves. When the AIR system is inactive the shut off valves prevent air flow in either direction.

2004 TRAILBLAZER -SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ON- DX SECONDARY AIR INJECTION FAULT- ANY IDEAS ON WHAT COST OF REPAIR WOULD BE

Hello, if you are getting a code P0410, air pump problem, the problem could be a bad air pump, a air check valve that is on the side of the engine head or even both. in some rare cases a bad 02 sensor can trick the system into thinking the air pump is not working correctly. in most cases the most common failure is the air check valve on the cylinder head. you are going to be in the area of 300 bucks to repair

Service Engine Soon light came on. Took the car to Auto Zone the code P0410 popped up. What does this mean?

This is a secondary air system malfunction code.....

The Secondary Air System pumps outside fresh air into the Exhaust System during cold engine start up. This additional air helps burn up the highly rich exhaust emissions that are produced when the engine is warming up. The Secondary Air System typically has an Air Pump and some tubes or plumbing to route the air. The system also has a solenoid and Check Valve(s) to control the air flow.

Common Problems That Trigger the P0410 Code
  • Defective Check Valve(s)
  • Faulty Air Pump or Air Pump Relay
  • Faulty air control solenoids or vacuum lines
  • System may be restricted or plugged
Let me k now which direction you want to head in and we will check further

Check engine light on, diagnostic code 0128 and 0410 keep coming up

P0128 - Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)

P0410 - Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction
(has to do with exhaust system)

Note: There is a technical service bulletin (TSB) regarding code P0410 for a number of GM models. The TSB calls for the replacement of the AIR pump and the installation of a new secondary injection hose.
