Question about 1987 Nissan Pathfinder

1 Answer

87 Pathfinder Starter

Our Pathfinder ran fine, then left the wife stranded at the ball field. We can pop the clutch and get it running, but it will not start otherwise. Replaced the starter and the positive battery cable. No idiot lights etc, and everything electrical works (windows, lights, et al). Help!

I had this problem and replaced the ground cable.
easy to check with jumper cables connect one to your neg battery post, and the other to your engine block. if it starts normal replace the cable.

I have a 87 4x4 pathfinder with new plugs, fuel filter, cap and wires. Started missing and eventually stopped running. After an hour it started and ran fine for a while and started missing again. Ha

Do you know for sure if you are loosing fuel or spark when it stops running ? Is the fuel pump loosing power ?
Are you smelling gas from inside the cabin ?

Engine turns over but will not start only when engine is warm

my car has the same exact problem!! i have 2 pop the clutch 2 get it started when it is hot. Mine starts great when its cold or hasn't ran 4 awhile but when we are driving around for more than about 20 min in it when we stop it doesn't start at all. it wont even turn over. so i have 2 have my husband push it while i pop the clutch & then it starts & runs fine till the next time we turn it off. its not a battery problem as we'v replaced the battery, & the starter & the alternater are fine as we'v had them tested. hopefully someone that knows & has fixed this problem can answer this mystery problem!! hopefully some1 can :D

Manual transmission popped out of first and won't re-engage. 2-5 and R work fine

Its probably the detent ball in the transmission, if it keeps popping out of first and you have to shift it up really fast to keep it from popping out; that's it. It is a pricy job because you have to rebuild or replace the transmission.

87 300ZX STARTER WILL NOT ENGAUGE. I HAVE CHECKED THE CLUTCH SWITCH AND IT IS WORKING

The starter has a thing called a starter drive. It operates with a over running clutch that is a safety that keeps it from over speeding when still engaged with a started engine. That drive needs replaced, the clutch is bad.
