Could be your electric fuel pump in gas tank. you can check it by turning the key on and take gas cap off and have someone to check to see if their is a noise saying the fuel pump is working. someone has to stand by where you put gas in your car and put their ear to the hole an listen when you turn key on, do not start the car just turn the key on and if they hear a noise like a pump running then your electric fuel pump is okay, but if don't hear a noise then your electric fuel pump is not working. it is hard to explain about the noise you will hear, but as long as they hear something when you turn key on and their ear is at the opening they will know what I am talking about. I've done 4 electric fuel pumps in gas tanks on different vehicles. good luck ! would like to know if you could hear the pump running when you turned the key on with the gas cap off.
You may have to "cycle" the ignition switch a few times to get fuel up to the fuel rails. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position (do not start yet). Listen to see if you can hear the fuel pump running. If you can hear it, turn the key of and wait about 15 seconds and turn the key to the RUN position again. Repeat this step one more time, the turn the ignition to START.
If you cannot hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key on, then you most likely lost your fuel pump when you ran out of gas. This is pretty common - especially if the fuel pump has a lot of miles on it. If this is the case, then you will have to replace your fuel pump.
check the fuel pump, it sounds like as it sits its losing pressure, when you first turn the key to the on ( not start) do you hear the fuel pump running then shut off? your fuel pump should keep pressure on the line at all times, so if you do hear the pump start it should be a very brief spurt and thats it, you can have the pressure checked at many repair shops for free or low charge,
put fuel in tank. turn key to run position( not start) wait 5 seconds. You should hear the fuel pump running. Repeat. Then start car. If you do not hear the fuel pump hum then it may have siezed due to lack of lubrication from no fuel. Sometimes you can get the fuel pump to kick on if you bang on the gas tank with the palm of your hand_ while turning the key to start position.
You could have a bad fuel pump. Can you hear the pump running when you turn on the key?Take off gas cap have someone turn key on listen at gas tank to see if you can hear fuel pump running if not bad fuel pump.Hope this helps D.
Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. There is an ASD relay that sends power to the fuel pump. Can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key? Don't turn the key far enough to crank it. Just turn it on and you should hear the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds. If you can hear the pump running, make sure you have spark at the plugs.
Either a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Take off the gass cap, have someone listen where the gas cap goes. When you turn the key to the on position you should hear the fuel pump run. If not, find the relay under the hood. Swap the relay with the one next to it (temporarily) Turn the key off then back on. If you hear the fuel pump running then replace the relay. If not the fuel pump is bad. Which is usually the problem.
Turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine. You should hear the fuel pump running for 5 seconds if working. This primes the gas to the injectors when doing this. If not heard running check the oil pressure switch for the 12 volts needed to run the fuel pump starts there on that harness. When the engine starts and the oil pressure reaches the normal pressure the computer shuts off that circuit and turns on the fuel pump relay to run the pump. The relay stays on till you shut the engine off
Did it run out of gas? could be fuel filter.Otherwise turn the key to the run position and you should hear the fuel pump (zzzzzzzzzzzzz),you may only hear it for a couple of seconds, turn the key off and back to run to hear it again. If you don't hear it I would suspect fuel pump,
