Avw golf 1999 thats makeing a knocking noise from the right side of the the engine and gear box, so what do think thats couldmaybe timeing chain? maybe frush bearing because car slips in only 5th?

you will never get anyone here to diagnose noise.
we cant hear it. nor drive it.
why not talk to live persons, a real mech, pops to mind.
or learn how to find noise,
what to read 100 pages how?
can do it, but refuse.
if you can make the noise happen not moving this is easy
if only moving this is hard and dangerous. (obvious to a point)

ever heard of a $5 stethoscope? not moving sure...... use it.
or if moving the $50 electronic remote same?
bingo bingo.

Buick century, new brakes, knocking noise in reverse.

Did you replace cable for manual brake?? in some cases this will cause the set arm in brake system to move causing this.... this can only happen if they are brake shoes and not disc brakes....hope this helps and Please rate this post and good luck.

A jolt from the rear of the car when the auto gear box changes in low gear and a noise from the near side rear

jolt from the rear of the car when the auto gear box changes in low gear is a common fault in the older s types. most of the time is a sign of the gear box on its way out. is worth checking gear box oil level and oil quality though. noise from near side rear would probably be the damper rose joint which make a knocking noise when they wear.

2006 Impreza sti- i get continuous knocking while in reverse

does it happen turning both directions? AND...does it happen turned the same angle in forward gears? Can you feel it in the pedals, floor, your seat or through the shifter? You may want to grab a helper and take them to a business/industrial area that has an empty parking lot and have them stand out side the vehilcle while duplicating the symptom. See if you can roughly locate where the sound is coming from. e.g. right front, left front. under center of vehicle. Your helper may need to walk or run near the vehicle while backing to be closer to the noise while it occurs.
