Question about 2000 Daewoo Leganza

1 Answer

I just bought a 2000 model Daewoo Leganza (2.2l dohc engine) I was servicing the engine and decided to check the spark plugs, only to find I could not see them as they were immersed in engine oil. Car still runs fine, not blowing any smoke, Is it the Valve Cover Gasket?

That's gotta smell like a tar pit, surely?
I don't think there's a way to tell without putting paper cores around the plugs and watching for wear, unless watching it run with safety goggles on and digital camera in a tethered ziploc (and maybe shaded amber LEDs aimed in or from the area of interest) puts on some kind of show.
What you suggest makes fine sense but won't be fun to fix without perfect evidence.  Once you get it, compare some other Leganzas for a particular cure better than redoing header gasket.  Daewoo has its own ideas about what oil is good for....

When the gasket goes bad, the engine will leak oil like crazy, which is what mine is doing at the moment.

As far as I know, it's really easy to replace the head gasket, which is something I'm in dire need of myself. You just unscrew the bolts, take the top part off, replace the gasket, and screw it back together.

I have a service manual, if you'd like to e-mail me..I can forward it to you.

The usual questions apply, do you have normal compression on all 4 cylinders, spark to the plugs, and fuel to the injectors ?
You should be able to find a used shop manual on Ebay or Amazon.

I cant get off the timing belt cover on a daewoo leganza dohc 2000 do i have to take the pully off. the metal peace behind the motor mount is preventing from coming off

thats correct the engine mount bracket needs to come off also if you need to remove rear timming belt cover to replace say the water pump or do some other repair, 3 torque head bolts are very tight and loctited in usually use correct torque socket and breaker bar to crack, its a bit of a tight squease also.
