As odd as this is, this is how the Ford Manual specifies the procedure:

1.) While rotating rotor Clock Wise, tighten nut to 40 NM (30 Ft/lbs).

2.) While rot. CW, loosen 2 turns.

3.) While rot. CCW, tighten to 23-40 NM (17-24 Ft/lbs).

4.) While rot. CW, loosen 1/2 turn.

5.) While rot. CW, tighten to 2 Nm (17 INCH/lbs, NOT foot/lbs!).

6.) Install nut retainer & cotter pin.

There is really no torq setting for a wheel bearing, do it up till there isn't anymore movement in the wheel, make sure you have plenty of grease too, it's relatively a easy job to do, good luck

How do I replace a front wheel bearing?

front wheel bearing is pressed into hub and has retaining clip on rear and then cv axle shaft comes through center and has a nut and keeper pin. Rule of thumb is to replace both front wheel bearings at same time. raise front of vehicle place on jackstands for safety remove front wheels remove brake calipers remove front rotors and cv axles remove steering hub assy from lower ball joint, tie rod end and struts take hub to shop and have bearing pressed out have new bearings pressed in reassemble front wheels in reverse order of disassembly.

The wheel bearing on the front right side of 2002 Ford Explorer

I removed the whole knuckle and placed it on support then used a sledge hammer to knock the old bearing out. It is a simple job but would be easier with a bearing hub puller that I don't think anyone has.
