Hybrids are cars that run off a rechargeable battery and gasoline, rather than just gasoline.

Hybrid batteries help to reduce fuel emissions because the hybrid engine draws on the battery and not gasoline when accelerating. Hybrid gasoline motors can shut off when the car is stopped and run off their electricity.

  • Hybrid cars are good for the environment. They can reduce smog by 90 percent and they use far less gasoline than conventional cars.
  • Hybrid cars are economical. They can get up to 55 to 60 mpg in city driving, while a typical SUV might travel 15-20 miles per gallon, or use three times as much gas for the same distance!
  • Hybrids are better than all-electric cars because hybrid car batteries recharge as you drive so there is no need to plug in. Also, most electric cars cannot go faster than 50-60 mph, while hybrids can. Most electric cars need to be recharged every 50-100miles
i hope this helps

It depends on what you're asking about. A hybrid vehicle is half electric and half gas, they typically run on electricity until the battery needs to be recharged. The major downside to purchasing a hybrid vehicle is that if a new battery needs to be purchased it can be extremely expensive, but on the other side they can save you a significant amount at the pumps. They currently require about 10 to 16 hours to charge and will only give you an average 200 miles before recharge is required. The gas engine is only used when you begin to run low on electricity. The new technology to replace the battery is coming soon which is called super caps which will replace the batteries. Super caps require minutes to charge full instead of hours so they are much more efficient but are not yet on the market.

A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power sources to move the vehicle.[1] The term most commonly refers to hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), which combine an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors.

Just a simple question: I'm looking at a 2005 Civic Hybrid versus a 2006 regular Civic. I'm leaning toward the hybrid for gas milage, but one mechanic was Very Wary of a Used Hybrid ..."all the hybrid...

it sounds more like that old adage....how long is the piece of string.... i don't think you can ever predict if something will last longer than others, you might buy the hybrid and drive off the forecourt only to have it brake down 2 miles up the road, and vice versa with the normal civic,or they could be looking at 10000000 miles.. they are to be honest just as good as each other, obviously the hybrid is better for the environment and cheaper running cost, but just as all honda's they are both very reliable, i truly think you should toss that coin of fate and see what side it lands, either way your a winner..hope this helps...sorta lol
