After a couple hours of frustration I found something interesting.
On the passenger side, between the battery and alt I found a bundle of 3 wires, in a shielding that had a melt spot. After removing the shielding I found that one of the wires as broken and showed signs of a previous repair. I had to add an other couple of inches of wire but after the repair it started normally. I found the wire was loose enough to have been bouncing off the manifold, hence I taped the wires to the ALT wire. Point is, find these 3 wires and check them for connectivity. Amazing what one little wire will do.

Crankshaft wont turn but motor start up battery and brake light on battery light on

something is wrong in your statement
crankshaft won't turn but the motor starts
if the crankshaft won't turn then there is no way that the motor will start--physical impossibility--
ask you question again and include make , model, year type of machinery and list clearly what was done and what you are experiencing as problems

Starter Motor stuck? try this simple trick...not just for bmw's but all cars

you can try a simple trick , get a friend to turn the ignition on as if to start the motor, with a small hammer or long bar, tap the starter motor this should release the solenoid and the vehicle should turn over, make sure you are not near any moving parts when it does start, if then you turn the motor off, and try to start it again with the key as normal and it does not start, but will start with hitting it again, you need a new or reconditioned starter motor as this one is worn and needs replacing..........NOT JUST FOR BMW'S, ALL CARS

Motor brushes appear to be bad. How do I replace?

IF it is a capacitor start it will not have brushes but a start or a start run capacitor. If it has a start capacitor the in the back of the motor there will be a governor operated switch that you would hear click as the motor starts to run. If it is a start /run capacitor the it is in the circuit all the time . Pull the capacitor out and check it externally and you will probably find that it has exploded and there is gunk leaking out of the case . Go to a motor rewinding place and they will have the correct capacitor for the motor.. Take it as a sample.
