Question about Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

When I back up the car makes a loud howling noise sometimes. I am not using the brakes when I hear the sound and it only does it on occasion. The only times it has done it when backing up is after it has sat in my driveway all night and never after I have been driving it during the day. Only does it in reverse, not driving forward. What would the problem be?

Most likely the brake pads and the material they're made of.I have experienced the same thing in many different vehicles, and it always turned out to be the brake pads,or in some cases, rear shoes.I know of a particular Sunfire does it all the time with the factory pads,so not uncommon. Most times, when stepping up to REAL expensive pads, like ceramic,it cures the problem/complaint.

What is causing the loud howling from my 2002 Suburban?

Hello I don't know exactly where you live however, I'd say the loud " roaring noise is possibly the clutch fan. The reason why they are so loud and make the roaring sound is because as you accelerate the fan blades spread outward but are under resistance .It's activated by ambient engine temp. They are very noisy when engaged and tend to work more on rural roads, stop and go and when A/C is being used. etc. The brake light is on because the fluid is below the fluid level sensor basically telling you to check and or add brake fluid. In addition the ABS light has came on because it had ran low on brake fluid sending a warning signal to the computer from the ABS brake control module. The best thing to do is to keep up on the fluid level find that leak and repair it.

My jeep makes a sound from the rear for example today backed out of a parking spot and a loud clicking kinda like if u put a baseball card in the spoke of a bike only louder

Check the back brakes . I believe you have drum brakes in the back. The brake hardware. ie..Springs, clips.. come apart sometimes. And this will cause the clicking noise you hear

Medium humming noise when backing up at low speeds

Probably rear brakes. Clean them up or get them looked at and try again.

Loud noise sometimes ocurs when excelerating or braking. sounds like metal draging , but it is not.

Does it make a thudding sond on the shifter....Frist off is it 6-speed or auto, and is it a 5.7/z28/ss or base model...Could be rear tranny mount which is located on the crossmember of the car...If you put it in drive hold your foot firmly on the brake and accel, slowly only to about 2krpms, have a friend look under the middle of your car and watch for the trannie to buckle up towards the back half shaft.....Get back at me with this info..I own 7 camaros, i can def help you w/ this....

2006 Dodge Neon makes a loud noise when I brake.

Neons are known to have brake noise esspecially from the rear. Try driving while holding the parking brake up for a while. Dont do it for to long but just enough to clear all the rust out of the drums. I work at a dealer and that has fixed countless noise complaints. However, if its more of a howling noise it make be one of the rear wheel bearings.

Try jacking your vehicle up and turning the tires. listen for any odd noise like a grinding sound, wheels hubs have been known to make a grinding noise when they go bad.
