I have a 1986 pontiac fiero 4 cyl. 5 spd . the clutch is moving fine , and so are the cables , but when you let the clutch out , nothing happens , the car does not move .

Does the pedal have "free play" at the top? Perhaps some adjustment is possible. If not, may be time to replace clutch disk.

A 1986 Mustang with a 4 cyl engine should have a carb and a choke. It sounds like the choke is not closing and-or the fast idle cam is not raising the idle speed until the choke opens.

1986 toyota truck electric choke

Is it hard to start? The choke has some notches on the side by the electric choke plug...rich to lean...If hard to start cold, loosen choke screws on side and turn the dial toward close (rich) retighten adjustment screws and recheck performance...If choke stays on to long after warm up (idles fast) adjust the choke toward open or lean position. Try no more than 2 notches either way between tests...Hope this helps.

Is it possible to put a manual choke on a 83 Ford Ranger with 2.o 4 cyl. ?

You would have to take a look at a conversion kit and see if there is a plastic cup that will fit your carb. The cup is used in place of the electric choke coil on the carb now.

Replaced Carb with a Edelbrock electric choke and now the truck will not start...Put new distirbortor on and new plugs and new wires...

The choke may be out of adjustment if the choke blade is fully closed you may have to adjust until partially open. The other possibility is the distributor is not installed correctly or the plug wire may be mixed up.

Procedure of tappet adjustment

make sure engine is warmed up. Put cylinder one at top dead center, remove the valve cover, loosen all adjustment lock nuts, adust intake and exhaust valves on cyl #1 and intake valve on #2 and exhaust valve on #3. now rotate crankshaft 360 degrees clockwise, now adjust intake valves on cyl#3 and cyl #4 and exhaust valves on cyl #2 and cyl #4.now tighten lock nuts and install valve cover. specs are intake valves 25mm clearance and exhaust 28mm clearance, use a feeler gauge, heres a picture to show you where to check clearance.7675a52.gif

I have an 1986 dodge aries se station wagon that is having some problems. The engine sputters out when ever it is chilly out. No matter what the engine tempt is it seems to be choking when its even...

Sounds to me like the automatic choke assembly is out of adjustment or not functioning correctly. On a cold day, you will note that the choke assembly is closed, try manually opening it and proping it open to see if this improves the problem. If your not sure where the choke assembly is, I suggest you buy a Hanes Repair Manual for this vehicle from your local auto parts store to help troubleshoot this problem.

When setting the timing gears, where do you set the distributor?

from memory no4 on dissy when timing marks on cam timing in correct position, no 1 cam lobes should be "rocking" and no4 cylinder should be at top dead firing stroke(ignition)should be notch in dissy when cap is off or set so rotor button is lined up with cyl no 4 ht lead position

Trouble starting 1986 5th ave

If ignition system is in good physical condition, check choke adjustment. When cold it should be closed, vacuum control should pull it further open as soon as it starts (both can be adjusted by bending control rods) choke is both heated and electrically controlled. some operate better with electric unplugged. Fuel pressure should be close to 5psi. Check/change filter if age is unknown.
