SOURCE: Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited P0700 diagnostic problem

P0700 means there is a transmission fault code in the transmission controller. Since the transmission controller doesn't have a light attached, it tells the engine controller to turn the light on using this code. You'll have to access the transmission controller to further diagnose the problem.

P0733=Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio
P0734=Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio,
your transmission is in "limp" mode,
Have the following sensors checked on the transmission,input sensor,output sensor,and speed sensor.
The transmission is not getting a signal from one of them,So it doesn't know how fast your going so it doesn't up shift.

1999 Jeep Cherokee. The transmission will not shift past second gear. It is stuck in Limp Mode?

Yes, that is the whole idea of Limp Mode. It limits you to first and second gear so you can limp slowly to the nearest garage without causing catastrophic damage to the engine. What you need to do is connect a good quality DTC code reader scan tool and see the real reason that Limp Mode has been engaged.

Limp mode reset

Limp mode will reset by itself once the problem that caused the system to trigger the mode is repaired. You must have the Powertrain control module scanned there will be fault codes in memory. Once the codes are read then diagnostics are performed for each code and repairs made based on the findings.

My jeep gand cherokee went into limp mode 150km after having a custom made freeflow exhuast system fitted. My regular mechanic who has a diagnostic box with limited capacity picked up fault code...

According with the parts ans jobs there, sound like a electrical problem or harnesses connections problem; Jeep DTC P1652 is refer at J1850 Communication Bus short to ground.

The J1850 Connector is the connector that you plug the OBDII Scan tool into. It is located under the dash facing the driver's seat (generally). Sometimes this occurs under "unauthorized reset" condition.

HERE you have additional details. In order to solve it, you will need visit your local Jeep dealer.

I know that isnt good news, but hope this helps.

I have a 1999 grand cherokee. The check engine light came on with a P1768 code. If I keep the trans in the "drive" position and start off, it feels like the transmission is in 3rd gear. No...

Hi, Your like your jeep is in limp in mode, this is to keep you from burning up transmission and to get you some were off the road, the p1768 code means A/T Transmission Relay Output Always Off. This should be checked out by your local shop or dealer. but you should make sure that the fluid level is correct, if to low there is not enough fluid pressure for the solenoid's to engage the relays. Hope this can help you out. If i can help you anymore fell free to re post.
Thanks dodge tec
