You probably have a leak in the fill tube that goes from the gas cap nozzle (where you fill the gas) down to the tank. If you get under the car, or look up through the wheel well (you might have to remove the liner in the well), you should be able to see the fill tube. If it's old, cracked, worn, broken, or has a hole in it, that'd do it for sure. That's my bet anyhow - either a leaking tube due to damage/rust, or if it's a two-piece design, a clamp that has failed and isn't sealing the two halves together.

Would bad gas make the car sound like it wants to stall and loss of power? Problem started after I filled up with gas at a "cheaper" station.

its possible if this happened only after you filled up.the gas quality may be bad or the station may have gotten a load or still has tanks of winter gas if the temperature has risen alot.this is something the public is not aware of that gas companies do so the temp difference will not affect how a car runs hopefully its a seamless transition. this can cause a problem until the station gets a fresher drop of gas from its supplier.or you could have gotten some dirt when you filled up from the in ground tank if it was getting low on fuel drawing up dirt.

Gas leaking from tank

This sounds like you have a leak at the fuel pump and sender unit, either in the unit mount or in a fuel line. Check under your back seat for an access panel if you have one then remove it and look at the pump and sender mount to see what is leaking, you may have to start the engine to get it to leak as it may only leak under pressure, hope this helps, let me know

Acts like i ran out of gas but just filled up.

Did you get gas while the fill truck was putting fuel in the ground?
You may have pick up water from the bottom of the delivery tank.
Change your gas filter and put a bottle of dry gas in your tank to dry up the water.

Can't get gas to go in tank, and it will spit out gas

Every gas tank has a vent tube, so when you fill the tank, air can escape, while the fuel is being pumped into the tank. Some vent tubes are metal, some rubber. Yours is either collapsed or plugged up. Look at the fill tube in the firebird and follow it from the gas cap to the tank, there should be a 2nd smaller tube that is your vent tube. Check to see if it's collapsed, pinched, or bent. This is definitely your problem. Check out this web site for pictures of different fill and vent tubes to get an idea of what to look for. Good luck let me know how you make out. Curt

there is a breather pipe running long the filler pipe, if u look at the furl cap there should be a small hole that lets out air as u fill up, i think that this is blocked .
