i just changed the oil in my 2000 jeep and the oil pressure is reading higher then before the change; it was right around 40psi and now its around 55-60. is this normal? the temp just got real cold around here and i just switched to fully synthetic oil

I am about 2500 miles into my last oil change on my 2002 Jeep Grand Chreokee. Now my oil pressure gauge is pegged at high (the outside temperature has gotten cold recently). I used 10w30 full synthetic as I have never had a problem with synthetic oil. This doesn't happen all the time (as I was in TN for Thanksgiving and temps were colder there than here) but has happened twice in the last 2 weeks. Please advise...

Same exact problem.  2000 Grand Cherokee w/ about 90,000 miles and about 1500 since last oil change.  Suddenly oil pressure gauge shoots straight up to the MAX as soon as I turn on the engine and stays there as long as the engine is running.

Check the wire and plug attached to your oil pressure sending unit. if this is not attached i found your problem will happen.

If you have a yellow oil pressure warning light displaying then you may have 2 problems
1. Your oil level is way too low and needs topping up which very often means you are a sloppy owner that does not bother to regularly check the oil level in the engine and probably the other fluids as well.

2. There is a problem with the oil pressure and it is below the minimum needed to lubricate the engine.

What you need to do:

1. Check the oil level and top it up to the max level with the correct grade and type of oil as specified by Toyota for that engine.
Do not overfill the sump.
2. Check to see if the oil pressure warning is continuing to display when the sump has been filled to the correct level. If you still have the oil pressure warning you need to have it investigated and the cause of the low pressure rectified otherwise you will destroy your engine if you continue to run it with less than minimum pressure. A mechanic needs in the first place to connect an independent oil pressure gauge to the engine to check the actual pressure readings. This will also eliminate any possibility that there is an issue with the oil pressure sensor and sender unit (which is not likely). .

My oil pressure just jumped to the max reading on the gauge. can this hurt my motor if it is really high oil pressure.

Does the oil pressure go to max or some where in between when you turn on the key without starting? This is what happen to me it was the oil sensor down by the oil filter. The cost for the sensor is about $100.00.

What is correct tire pressure on 2000 pontiac grand prix gt?

Look in one of the rear door jams of the car. There should be a plate that has tire pressure settings for different tire sizes. Verify this pressure against the tires rated max pressure, it is on the sidewall of the tire in very small print. If the recommended pressure does not exceed the max pressure, fill it to that pressure. If it exceeds the max pressure, only fill it to the max pressure. This should be checked and filled with the tires cold (ex. before driving any substantial distance)

I did a full tune up ( plugs, oil, and oil filter) on my 01 GTI VR6 and it ran fine for mabey half an hr and then my oil light started flashing and on the dash, it said to turn the car off. I checked the...

If you have an oil pressure sensor light that keeps coming on even, if you have just filled up your oil tank to the optimized level, then there's a good chance that it's the oil pressure sensor that's not working. If the light sensor is coming on and off while you are driving, it's most likely a faulty oil pressure sensor. But to make sure, always check your oil tank whenever the light comes on again. If the oil level is still up to the desired level, then it's definitely an oil pressure sensor. This calls for an oil pressure sensor replacement, which is far better than having an engine repaired. It will only cost a couple of bucks to replace a sensor. if above fails, have the oil pressure checked it could be a plugged up oil pump. have a good day !! check the wiring to sensor also.

Over filled with oil. lifters knocking

You will get low compression and oil will blow-by and cause a smoke storm cloud behind your truck.
You can get a fluid pump to pull out excess oil through the dipstick.
same happened to me, truck is tough and bailout needed :)
