Question about 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer
Actually I just replaced mine, your solution was very helpful but you don't have to remove the plastic screw behind the light (it just holds the trunk upholstery to the frame.) What confused me was which way to pull (I was afraid I'd brake something). When I got it off I saw that strait back is the 'preferred way' but the two clasps on the right that help hold it on place have plastic caps on them to keep them from being bent while removing the taillight portion. The rest was strait forward.

Open the trunk and take the two screws out near the trunk seal as well as the turn thingy in the trunk behind the light. Then you have to pull the entire tail light assembly off. After you do that just twist out the bulb.
