Had the spark plugs and plug wires changed on my 1994 GMC Safari minivan, and now it runs very rough. If I stop, the engine shuts off. Backfires a lot also. The whole van shakes bad going down the road. Also found a vacuum line that needed replacing. Replaced it also. What could cause it to miss and shake like that?

If your Safari did not expecience these systoms prior to you changing the plugs and ignition wires, then you may have crossed two or more of these wires when they were repalced.

1999 GMC Safari, rough running, knock detonation at wide open throttle

It seems like a problem with your ignition system. You could take a look under the hood at night / in the dark to see if there are any sparks between the spark plug wires and anything they touch or lay close to.
As the engine needs to be running during this test, please watch out not to touch any moving parts as it might lead to severe injury.

If you see any sparks - change the spark plug cables. If not, try to move the cables (with engine off) away from any metal parts they could be touching. Then start the engine and see if the problem persists. If it makes no change, you will have to start replacing the spark plugs, rotor + cap, wires and maybe the coil.

No fire in coil pack.

Was the timing chain damaged ?
Did you have spark from the coil before you replaced the other parts ?
Do you have battery voltage on the positive side of the coil with the key on and in crank mode ?
Is the coil wire not sparking, or are you not getting spark at the plugs ?
Is the distributor rotor turning when you crank the engine ?

How do change my spark plugs for a 1994 gmc safari?

Hello dechile1313: My name is Roger and I can help you. You will need to remove the engine cover from the inside to gain access to some of the spark plugs. The other plugs are accessed better from the wheel Wells. Raise the front end up to drop the tires down. Reach through the wheel well and lift up the rain shield you will see the spark plugs. Be sure and twist the plug wire boots back and forth to keep from braking the t plug wire ends. Please rate the quality of this reply. This lets us know you received the information you requested. Thank You for using FixYa. Roger

Spark plug issues on GMC Safari early 90's.

The simple fix would be to get a ratchet and spark plug socket and tighten them. First remove the plug wire from the plug and then use the socket to tighten them one at a time so you do not get the wires mixed up as to which one goes to which spark plug. Tighten them slowly to avoid breaking one of them but do not over tighten them either.
