Question about 1986 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

Pinking 1986 Jetta CLX Auto. I run only on unleaded. What do I need to do to stop pinking, it sounds like a diesel tractor when accelerating especially on uphills. What grade of spark plug should I be using as this may be the problem. Also the idling is very low below 500 rpm which causes the motor to shake a little.

I have a 2008 higlander - rattling noise at acceleration. OK on open highway - just at acceleration? Any thoughts?

Could it be low RPM pinking?
Try premium gas to check.
If that fixes it then you have bad gas, the wrong type of gas or the knock sensor has died or is disconnected.

Renault Laguna 2 2001 1600 16v misfiring. Sluggish going uphill, makes a load clacking sound when the accelerator is pressed but stops when coasring, cuts out when it comes to a stop

Seems quite evident that the firing timing is OFF and the fuel tuning needs a check. The engine seems to hunt around when it is accelerated as it is pinking/knocking when powered. So please have the timing of the firing checked, check the electrical section of the ignition, check the spark plugs, the HT wires.
Now also make sure that the fuel pressure is good , the fuel is good grade and the filter is clean.

Hi, I have a 2005 xjr and it pinks at about 4000 rpm when accelerating hard, I always use high grade fuel, just had new plugs, air filter, fuel filter. but it still does it. it runs smoothly poodling...

The pinking is due to either lean burn, high temperatures or overly advanced timing. If the mass air sensor is dirty then it may underestimate the volume of air entering the engine and therefore call on shorter injection cycles meaning less fuel = lean mix A faulty or slightly under-performing exhaust gas recirculation system would reduce the amount of inert exhaust gas from entering the combustion process and this will cause a high temperature lean burn situation. An under-performing crank sensor may yield erroneous timing signals to the ECU giving rise to an excessively advanced ignition causing the pinking. There may be error codes logged by the ECU which would help in the diagnosis.

My car makes a clunk sound sometimes when I drive.

without having vehicle up on a four poster and putting my head underneath ?? as for the rattle ?? this could be pinking caused by low octane fuel ,95 unleaded is what it should have

1998 diesel freelader is pinking

You have a leak somewhere that is letting the fuel system **** in air. This is serious and needs to be taken care of immediately. Check all your lines and fittings for wet spots or signs of fuel leaking and repair. Also double check to make sure your new filter is on tight and no fittings have been put on crossthreaded. Hope this helps.

Can any one please help me with the size of the plug and point gaps on a mazda B2600

spark plugs 25th points 20th ,check for wear on the drive arm of the distributor ,the square that opens the points .check dwell if you find a dwell meter should be about 50% .check that the drive cam for opening the points isnt worn either ,and most important dont forget a bit of grease on the cam as well .lift rotor arm off and a drip of oil on top of the little sponge .timing could be between 8 to 12 degrees but with the unleaded fuel 95 then about 6 degrees to stop it pinking 8 degrees with 98 unleaded ,thisa engine doesnt need a lead aditive as it was built with stellite coated valves and seats
