You can buy those belt dressings in cans and spray them on the belts to minimize if not eradicate the squealing sound...

I have a 2008 John Deere Z425 zero turn that i bought used last year. Hydraulic Drive belt is squealing when starting from stop or going up slight grades and doesn't pull good.

v belts -- and am assuming that is what you have -- have to in position just proud of the edge of the pulley to work well
if the back of the belt is below the edge of the pulley it is worn or the pulleys are worn
the belts come in different cross sections and a smaller belt in section in a wider pulley will run on the bottom of the pulley and will slip and squeal just like you describe
belts come in "V" section , "A" section and "B" sections

AC belt squealing. Lost it on the road. Replaced it and tension pulley. Still squeals.

Sounds like the compressor is seizing up or a idler pulley bearing has failed.

Squealing noises are more apt to be from belts, not mechanical parts. It doesn't necessarily have to be "a belt" per se, as the noise could, in part, be caused by an idler pulley. Open the hood and try to locate the sound. FYI I have posted the complete 2004 Forenza Service manual on FIXYA. Do a site search with those key words.

Can't find the source of the squeal

Year make and model ??
The belt could be glazed and slipping even if it is tight.
You could have a weak belt tensioner too.
The noise when the ac or heat is turned on can be the extra load from the ac compressor or the alternator. The compressor cycles on and off especially in defrost mode.
The load from the alternator is the first noise of the day. As the belt warms up it becomes better at handling the load of the accessories.
Even tho the belt looks fine, you may have to replace it to get rid of the noise.

Replace the crank pulley before it costs you an arm and a leg. It has caused this problem. don-ohio

04 explorer still squealing with new belt tensioner

It sounds to me like one of the belt-driven accessories is stopping. Remove the belt and turn all of the accessory pulleys by hand, both slowly and quickly, in both directions. Any that does not turn smoothly, quietly and easily is suspect and should either be replaced entirely or have its bearings replaced (if practical). In my experience, the most common accessory to cause this problem is the power steering pump, but it could be any of them.

Most likely need to replace you accessory drive belt. However, before you do that make sure the tensioner is bringing adequate pressure to bear on the belt. The squealing is probably the side of the belt slipping in the metal drive pulleys.
