Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix

Trany would slip at high speed and sometimes if i got on it hard. It was just doing it maybe once every 4/6 months, until one day i was driving to work. I was goig 75 mph and all of a sudden i lost every gear but 1st and reverse. I changed trany filter the fluid smelt burnt and very little black powdery substance in the pan. I drove it around the block twice a week for about 3 months and could only go 20 mph and slip. I recently changed fluid again and was very clean. Now i have second gear and can get up to 60mph sometimes it will slip but now all the time.

Have the vehicle scanned for diagnostic trouble codes, and repair any codes.More than likely the trans needs a rebuild. If the fluid smelled burnt, then obviously clutches or bands are burnt inside the trans.Changing the fluid just got rid of the smell, whatever is burnt is still hurnt. It is best to stop driving the vehicle,as continuing to drive it will just cause more damage to whatever is damaged. Those transmissions are prone to pump problems too.

Hello, read your blurb on Shirley`s P0496 code, quite impressive answer. Maybe you can help with a 4 month problem on my 08 Kia Rio 5. I have an engine vibration at 2600 rpm sometimes at 2100 and 1100 rpm...

NO NEW HEAD please. Sounds like the high-flow purge valve (selonoid) is not closing.... Some may experience a hard start / crank condition. In some cases the engine may
run rich (rough at select speeds) which may not detected, but can cause damage long-term (think: catalytic converter damage).
Since your cat has failed once, you run rough, and your showing a rich fuel condition, locate and replace the valve...that should do it.

Need to fix the slipping on an automatic transmission

change the trany fluid and filter. get some lucas transmission treatment and put it in before you put your trany fluid in. after all fluids are in and everything is together start the vehicle and hold foot on brake and go through the gears it might slip a lil the first 5 min of driving or until fluid works through trany.

it sounds like you have to much trany fluid in the trany.check the fluid level .if fluid is to much it bubbles at high speeds and if to low it can slip

2005 gmc sierra heater fan quit working. I lost the fifth speed months ago and a couple of days ago lost the other four, the first day the fan would come on sometimes while driving then quit after a while...

1-4 speed are the blower motor resister . It controls all 1-4 speeds, also it's under the passanger side dash around fan, the 5th speed runs off a fuse the is located in the fuse box. It's one of those square fuses , not the relays but fuses. The resister will run $15 and fuse $5 . Good luck. I have replace these before

Loss of power trany slipes sometimes

sounds like your tranny is going to hatch at any time. each mile that drive could be your last. i would get this thing off the road and get a new tranny into it.

Tranny drives good for a bit them it shifts hard.

On your transmission there is a transmission speed sensor (vehicle speed sensor). These do go bad sometimes. What happens is you are going along all happy at 60 mph but the info being transmitted by the sensor is incorrect and BAM you're not so happy anymore. This also puts a lot of additional wear and tear on the transmission. For this vehicle at Autozone you can buy the sensor I believe for around $40 and it is not that hard to change or maybe expect to pay maybe $40-60 to change (guesstimate)...hope this helps you.

1990 Riviera Shop installed wrong transmission? no overdrive

sounds like they replaced your tranny with a 3 speed one. while it's not going to hurt anything, you won't have over drive and get better gas milage as you would with overdrive.but there should not be any looseness in your shifter. they should fix that right away. slipping out of gear can be very dangerous. as for the rest, it sounds like they did very shoddy work to say the least.
