When you open car in morning is there a strange smell in it? You can check ac pressure with a tyre gauge should have a filler looks like a tyre valve near ac unit under bonnet check if it has pressure if not you have a leak and need to find and fix that befor regas. If leak suspected (you got not preasure in unit) get ac regasser out and tell him/her you think it maybe leaking and if passenger floor wet and your system still uses freon good chance you have a leak, they should dye the gas and the leak will become very obvious very fast once car started and ac turned on. But if you use freon you may not be able to regas depending on the laws in your neck of the woods. Here in australia if your useing freon and you need to regas you have to change a fair bit to use a legal gas which depends on type of refrigerant unit installed.

Can youput to much freon in and what will it do

4 cans will be too much
it makes the compressor pump liquid instead of gas and that damages the compressor
it the compressor is still capable of pumping gas then it will go to high head pressures and that will switch the compressor off
you have wasted your money, run the risk of expensive compressor damage , didn't fix the leak that required the gas
The specialist ac shops are not there to take your money but to give you a system that runs without problems so use them to fix the faults and put the right amount of gas in using gauges not cans

Why do I have heat coming out of AC vents when AC is turned on???

Low freon. Bad pressure switch, or compressor is bad.

AC has barely any pressure unless on high and only getting hot air.

check the cabin air filter if equipped, Make sure that the air is not coming out of the floor vents or defrost. The door that diverts the air maybe stuck, pushing air out defrost/floor vents

I have driven 80K miles so far in 12 years. All of a sudden AC stopped producing cold air. All vents when turned ON only blow heat (HOT-AIR only). AUTO switch only lights up when temperature is increased...

The temp is controlled by a flap called an air door. It could be an electric motor/actuator, a vacuum control or a manual cable but the door is likely not closing all the way and allowing air to pass through the heater core. ----------
There are few possibilities needs to be checked.------ The Freon, is the Freon low.Get the AC pressure tested. The low pressure switch towards the Accumulator, should show 35 to 45 lbs and high pressure switch should show Approx 80 to 100 lbs,------- But if freon level is fine then get the Hvac module inspected. Its module problem , This is the module in the dash board that has all of the A/C control knobs and buttons in it. It is very easy to remove; only 4 screws have to come out first. This module fails or shorts and cause this problem.------ But first check the freon level, if its low then its low freon problem.Get the pressure tested, if no pressure showing then by pass low pressure switch via jumper and see if compressor runs.If yes then replace the low pressure switch. But if all checked ok, then its HVAC module.--------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Hi there... About 2 months ago my air conditioning was blowing hot air while air con was on cold Hyundai replaced the compressor after numerous phone calls & second opinions now my air compressor is...

I can tell you general principles about A/C but have not worked on a Hyundai. If the A/C lines under the hood and directly from the black cylinder tank are frosted or sweating, you have Freon circulating.

There are 2 cutoff switches in all systems. A low pressure and high pressure cutoff. The ideal amount of Freon is in the middle of these 2 pressure points.
In this way the compressor clutch will stay engaged the longest and keep the Freon circulating the longest. This is the way you get COLD air.

There are ways to measure the pressure and to find leaks. You can sometimes loan tools from Autozone or Oreillys for a deposit. Before blaming another electrical problem for the lack of COLD air you should test the pressure of the Freon left in the system. If you are within 90 days or 3000 miles, most minimum warranties cover the parts. With factory warranty it should go farther.

In answer to your electrical concern, yes there is another system controlling the A/C. The ductwork has either vacuum operated or electrically operated doors (flaps) under the dash. These "doors" blend the airflow by mixing cold and hot air to give you the temperature you want. If you want all COLD you keep the heater door shut and so on.

So you look at these areas separately first. Under the hood is the Freon pressure good? Pipes sweating? Compressor clutch on steady? And if everything under the hood is good, then you look inside the car at the ductwork.

I hope this helps you.

My ac compressor on my 95 audi 90 turns on and off continually, and does not blow cold. does it just need a recharge, or could it be more?

How may miles is on the car?

Get an AC LOW SIDE psi garage and check on the LOW SIDE hose PSI.

MAKE SURE IT"S LOW SIDE.

High side can shoot up to 140 +++ PSI

BE CARE REAL CAREFUL

If it has 45+ PSI then do a charge with the auto part store R-134A kit.

If it's below 45 psi then you has a slow leak. Fill up will be last only hours or weeks.

Fix it right and be good to our environment.

2004 Chevolet Silverado blows hot air and snowflake button blinks when pressed

Blinking or chattering of the compressor clutch usually indicates low "freon" charge.

Today the A/C stopped blowing cold air yesterday it was fine, Nothing but hot air was coming our of vents

Look for leaks around the A/C hoses and compressor. You may just be low on Freon. When the pressure in your lines (amount of gas in your ac lines) is low, the ac will just cutout hence blowing hot air. try adding some freon.

2000 mercury grand marquis air conditioning won't work

1st Thing,
Located Someone With a Set Of A/C Gauges 134A Freon,
Make Sure Your A/C System Has Enought Freon In It, There Is a Low Freon Pressure Switch
In The Electrical System, Usually, 50-60 PSIG or Less On The Gauges, Will Indicate Low Freon, When Freon Is Low The Compressor Is Dis-engaged To Prevent Compressor Damage.
1] Low Freon
2] Bad Low Pressure switch
3] Blowen Fuse[s]
4] Electrical Problem[s]
[a] Digital Climate Controlled ?
Climate Control Self Diagnose From Button's On Unit, OEM Manual Explains This,
If Yor Auto Has Digital Climate Control.
5] Bad Compressor DC Coil

Note: Does The Compressor Engage, Click-On When Button Is Pressed, But Getting
Only Warm Air?
Is One Of The Compressor Aluminum Tube's Cold, Be Careful Other Is Really Warm/Hot,
If Cold and or Sweating, Dripping Water [Normal], You Are Blending Hot Air w/Cold
Air At The Heater Blend Box, Making Warm Air.
If This Is So, If A Vaccum Controlled Temp Unit, Check For A Vaccum Hose Bad,
Should Be Either 1or 2 Vaccum Lines Going Into Firewall To Feed The Controller
Unit, If OK, Might Be a Bad Blend Box Diaphram, [Control's A/C air, Blocks Off
heater Coil Hot Air].
If Your Auto Is Vaccum Controlled, Can You Changed From Bottom, Dash,
Defrost Air Flow?, Yes, No Vaccum Lost Feeding Controller, Still Might Have
Bad Diaphram Blending Hot Air w/Cold If Your Have Cold Alum-Tubing In
engine Compartment.
If Digital Climate Controlled, Might have Diaphram's, Vaccum Controlled or
electrical Servo's Controlled vs Diaphram [Vaccum] Controlled.
This Might Help, Hopefully, This Is Just For Starter's, There More To Some System's
and Without The OEM Mgr's Manual[s] You/Be Would Be Lost, especially w/Electrical.
Later, God Bless

97 Ford Econoline air conditioning and vent settings blowing hot

I know from experience that if the coolant is to low ( not just the freon levels in the compresor but the antifreeze/coolant level as well) the AC system will not cool and will blow hot. Check the coolant Antifreeze and freon levels, even with the Coolant being a little low my 1998 Ford E150 Van will blow hot. After you have ruled out of these possibilities and the chance it is the thermostat most likely the problem is what Ford calls the "Flap" it controls the air flow through the vent system when you switch from Heat to AC. When the Flap is working it closes off one systems air flow so as to not interfere with the current climate selection.
