    same problem

  • lintz34 Sep 05, 2008

    2001 Mazda MPV -- Check engine light comes on and when tested at Autozone it shows code P1512. Seems to happen when on any long distance high speed trips and especially through interstate mountains. Light goes off in time by itself and hasn't had to be reset. Haven't noticed any driving problems so far or difference in the engine but wanted to resolve in case it will cause a future problem. Possible causes listed at Autozone for P1512 include: 1) failed VTCS solenoid, 2) short circuit condition, 3) VTCS vacuum solenoid stuck closed. Car isn't quite old enough to get the repair manual unfortunately. Is there a legitimate reason the check engine light comes on and reason for concern, or is this a malfunction of the MPV's warning system? Are these possible causes serious problems and what could the worst outcome be if left unrepaired? Don't want to be left stranded.

I had a problem with code P1512 on a 2001 mazda mpv,it was a pending code according to my scaner, anyways all l did was drove it about 160 miles today, between hi-way and city miles and the code was erased by the pcm because l did not clear any codes l was just waiting for a complete driving cycle to pass emissions and as today only have 1 incomplete code so l guess by driving it lil bit more tommorrow should be ready once the P1512 is not in my pcm anymore.

    To pass emissions on newer than 01 you are allowed one monitor not set as long as mil is not commanded. 96 - 2000 you are allowed 2 not set.

SOURCE: I am getting a P0031, P1512, & P0421 code

P0031 - most likely pointing to a failed O2 sensor (bank 1 sensor 1 is located before the catalytic converter)

P0421 - failed catalytic converter or a failed O2 sensor

P1512 - intake manifold shutter valve is stuck - may be caused by the O2 sensor, but may not

I recommend replacing your O2 sensor first and see what happens

Hey my problem 710 ingine code on 2000 mazda mpv

Google the code & read up (OBD PO710) if that is it
I hope you know when you get codes,
that they do not mean you need to replace
a part
Codes only point to the system with the out of
range fault
You need diagnostic manuals to diagnose &
component test,no parts get replaced until they fail
a test.

P1512 How to fix it?

The code involves IMRC runner valves in the intake manifold. I would do some internet research for the code and see if the repairs are within your abilities.

P1512 of my 00 MPV, what is the solution?

DTC P1512 - VARIABLE TUMBLE CONTROL SYSTEM (VTCS), STUCK CLOSED
The air intake hose that goes from the air filter/mass airflow sensor to the throttle body they are common to crack. This air leak can cause a lean condition if that checks out ok then the issue is usually a faulty mass air flow sensor .This would need to be checked next.

Usually the actuator valve is stuck closed. These are the most common causes of the P1512 and possible causes are:
* ECT sensor malfunction.
* MAF sensor malfunction.
* IAT sensor malfunction.
* EGR boost sensor malfunction
* TP sensor malfunction.
* CKP sensor malfunction
* VTCS solenoid valve malfunction.
* VTCS shutter valve stuck closed.
* VTCS shutter valve actuator stuck closed.
* Short circuit between PCM and VCTS solenoid valve.
* PCM malfunction.

I would start with the mass air flow sensor this can cause all these issues. Then the cat. This would be the next step.

I hope this helped (remember to rate and comment this answer).

Mazda MPV 2001, code P1518 , and P1512, what is the problem?

After extensive searching and trial and error I found that the cause for the code 1518 on my mazda mpv was caused by the plastic clip that holds the linkage for the intake manifold runner had broke on the fire wall side and the linkage fell out causing the runner to stay open. It is very difficult to see. It is on the front( drivers side) of the engine below the upper intake manifold. Remove the air cleaner box and use a mirror and you can see it. Only about 6 inches long. Replace both clips while you are in there because it is a bear to get to. Check this first before you go through the other items like the egr. Inexpensive repair and my code 1518 and the one for randon miss fire went away never to return. Lots of power again. Good luck. Jim

P1512 imrc air valve stuck closed

you will have to replaced the imrc or the problem will not go away. your local dealer probably stocks the part and can install it for you in about an hour.
