The low side fitting you hook to is not under the hood(Not in engine compartment)To charge ac you MUST attach charge hose to fitting on the side of the aluminion acumulator LOCATED behind right (pass) headlight, reach under fender in front of right front tire, behind bumper.BELIEVE ME it is there, on side of tank. Reach under and feel for it.

Buy a can of 134a (refrigerant) from Autozone or a similar store. Often times they will come with hoses and gauges, if not you will need to buy them. There is a valve under the hood which you attach the refrigerant hose to. Turn on the car and air conditioner (be very careful and aware of moving parts of course), then open the can with the knob attached to the gauge to let refrigerant in. I cannot remember the amount of refrigerant the for focus ac system takes, you will have to look it up. If the air conditoner stop being cold again it is probably indicitive of a leak in the sealed system which you would need a mechanic to repair.

Imtermittent fault with Ford Focus air conditioning

Sounds like a leak. If you've had to recharge the system every year, you're losing refrigerant. If you've added refrigerant on your own, you may have overcharged the system. The best way to find out is to get a refrigerant pressure gauge and check the pressure. A reading between 30-40 psi is in the normal range. Below 30 will require a recharge, above will require releasing refrigerant.

have the AC system vacuumed down and recharged completely,
