I had one break, and the nose cone wedged behind the clutch fork, not allowing the clutch to engage....didn't know that until I had the tranny off... So i inspect everything, put it all back together, install a new starter, and first try it shatters the nose cone AGAIN!!!! I don't know what is causing this, they flywheel and clutch look fine. I am an ASE mechanic and this has me scratching my head!!!! Any advice???

I dont want to add this as an answer, but i have come across some cheap starters made for many cars etc. you know what i mean, but sometimes the starters are not shaved on the matting surface like it should. i had a blazer one like this not long ago from autozone. well after the first one broke i got a new one via warrenty. well when i went to install the 2nd one i noticed a little corner of the matting surface was not mating properly. one of the corners was not shaved for the blazer i had to work on. it bolted up fine and all. i would have not seen this since its only like 1/16 hight difference. but it was just a cheap starter like all the other cheap **** thats out there. i had to go elsewear to get one that fit properly.cause i wasnt going to get another one from there. id rather nto have the customer come back due to cheap parts.

What do you mean by shattered? If you mean the teeth on the starter motor, you are probably looking at a problem with broken teeth on the flywheel on the engine. Inspect it for damage. MM85

I have replaced the starter in my mustang 3 times already because either the gear shatters or just winds up and doesnt turn the motor over

Maybe you have a run of bad parts. Maybe the engine is trying to run backwards because of ignition timing or a crack in the distributor cap. If it is a high mileage engine, the thrust bearings are letting the crankshaft move forward and backward too much.

If you choose not to remove the radiator, fan, and grill, then I would guess yes. I just replaced a starter on one the other day. Remove the metal gusset, believe it's 5 large bolts right below the starter to access the starter and thermostat.

My 2006 BMW 5 series fails to start. Lights and gauges come on, but not even a click when turn key. tried both keys. checked battery. 4 days later tried ignition and car operated normally, starting,...

If you can catch it failing again, test for power on the small wire going to the starter solenoid while someone tries to crank it. If you have no power, check for power at starter relay and trace backwards. If you have power, you have a bad starter. They can have intermittent failures. Hopefully your starter is easy to access, some 3 series and 5 series have the starter mounted under the intake manifold and it is necessary to removed the maifold to replace or test the starter. Good luck, hope this helps.

By 2003 towcar sunroof shattered while sitting in a parking lot. Do you know what could have caused this?

On a hot day, you need to ventilate the interior of the car. Some cars have built-in pressure relief parts built into the body to prevent this problem.

Vibration caused by airplanes or passing cars can hit a frequency that may shatter glass. Or someone may have deliberately broken the glass with a spring punch. The correct use of a spring punch is to put a dimple in wood or metal before drilling a hole.

But thieves found that the punch will shatter glass fairly quietly. Keeping this possibility in mind, you should be able to get your Comprehensive car Insurance to cover the cost of replacement.
It is likely someone may have tried to steal your belongings from inside your car.

I hope my solution is helpful.

My 97 chevy blazer is eating starter bolts. I have replaced them three times and they are all breaking after a day or two.I have had to drill them out twice now...i

Check the starter and see if there is a provision for a front or top brace. most starters have them and that part is often discarded on the first replacement. (should be a small "L" bracket) between the starter motor and the block. You could try using grade 8 mounting hardware but if it snaps again they will be more difficult to drill.
I'd also start looking for a reason there is so much stress there, otherwise even if the bolts do not snap, the nose of the starter will shatter. One possible cause of that is an engine mis-fire during starting, due to a bad ignition wire, cap or rotor.
Likely you can get a pair of oem bolts and possibly even the bracket for cheap at any scrapyard.

Got spark and fuel put a new starter in car wont start. Could it be a cam sensor if so where is that located on the car?

Unless the cam sensor is totally shattered which is rare that won't have a lot of effect.(it wears yes) On the 3800 90-94 models it is located bottom of motor left side as you face motor (very difficult location)
On the starter its possible your solenoid was the culprit in the first place.Did the starter come with solenoid attached ?

Just want to know the easiest way to remove the cables to the starter

there is a penetrating oil called rost off ice. it sprays a freeze agent that shatters rust.spray the connects first and let sit 5 minutes.then use a good quality socket with 6 points so the nuts do not round.they are on very tight.if you are using a wrench, hit the end of the wrench with a rubber mallet if you can not loosen them by pulling.this will"crack" the nut loose.worse case scenario leave the cables on the starter and disconnect the other end.
