My park avenue oil pressure gauge will not come up at all its down past the high end of the gauge not the bottom. Sometimes it comes back to normal and then flickers up and back to normal. Then it just stays down on the high end. I just replaced the oil pressure sending unit. Could it be the oil level sensor on the oil pan? I've had this problem growing on over a year so would it take that long for a oil pump to go out? I just dont want to shell out that kind of money for a oil pump and it not fix the problem but I dont want to play the guessing game to much as it will cost in the long run as well. Car runs fine sounds fine everything is fine but the gauge. Could it have something to do with none of the dashlights working (which is another problem in itself I think no fuses blown at all and my brother had the same problem with his 92 park aven no dash lights)? I had to wire one of the wires to the radio to the hot wire on my cd player to keep the dash lights on at all times. No fuses blown either. I've googled and googled on thing I can find is changing the oil pressure sending unit which didnt help. Any advice will be appreciated. ITs just a 3800 v6 if that helps.

Not the oil level sensor , Could also be the gauge is bad . You could try buying a used cluster at automotive salvage yard for $20 - 30 buck . Had a problem with chevy cavalier with the temp gauge showing overheating , just started the car so i know it wasn't overheating . Changed instrument cluster , the gauge work normally . You could also check the oil pressure with a pressure tester . Screws into when sensor screws into . Videos on youtube . How To Check Oil Pressure EricTheCarGuy

Oilgage is maxed out

Your oil pressure gauge is reading at its highest possible reading? If it really is that high, you need to check the oil level in the crankcase. If it's not really that high, it could be just the gauge.

Since you know where the sender is on the engine, Get a manual test gauge and put in on and see what the real pressure is before you do anything else.

Engine 3800 for 98 Park ave. shows oil pressure too high on the gauge. what could cause this

Sounds like your oil pressure sending unit is faulty! When you turn the key on, is the gauge reading low, then you start it and it pegs out? if so, the sending unit has failed.

Oil guage drops then goes to high range

sounds like your sending unit needs to be replaced cheap fix and if your oil pump losses all its pressure you will begin to hear knocking coming from your motor from the top under the heads.

Losing Oil Pressure in Dodge Ram

I have a 1999 dodge ram with a 5.9liter. Come to a stop and bam no pressure. Replaced sending unit twice. First after market, then mopar. Problem is still there. Replaced pump. Problem was still there. So I talked to tons of dodge mechanics, and this is the real problem. Who ever said that these engines are none for sludge is just reall really stupid. BOTTOM LINE ON THAT FACT. Sludge comes from neglect...
Dodges oil pump makes 8-10 Psi at idle. Always mechanically test that no MATTER what. But the sending unit needs 12-14 psi to read it. So what happens is the engine warms up, and the oil thins. Then you come to a stop, and rpms are low, and your not producing enough psi for the sending unit to read it. So your truck is fine. But if the chime is getting to you. Install a high volume pump. I returned the stock one, and got the high volume pump. I will bet if you change your oil every 3,000 miles you will not see sludge at all. If your dodge has high miles replace valve cover gaskets, becauce the high volume pump may cause the gaskets to leak. Whoever said ther none for sludge just has no love for a dodge, or is a moron mechanic that is stuck in his ways. High volume pump is the fix $85.00 plus pan gasket. If you have a 4x4 you can do it yourself. Drop the starter. Remove torque converter cover. With a 13mm socket with a variety of extentions, and removing a dozen bolts. Do it yourselfer will complete it in 4 hours....

Oil pressure gauge reads past 80

now unless there is a very loud knocking of the motor which would mean that the engine's top end was not getting any oil I would say that your oil guage is sprung and needs replacing. a high pressure rating would indicate a restriction in the oil flow pasdt the sending unit or a plugged oil filter. if the filter were plugged you would know it because your enging would run tight in no time at all. replace the guage itself... please rate this........thanks
