Here's your problem, Ram. You are losing coolant because there is a tiny crack in your motor. The loss is not big enough to create smoke from the exhaust so that you would KNOW the head is cracked. AND it is not going to leak on the ground. The test for compression loss will be inconclusive because crack is so small ...but growing. This is a big time defect for this '99 year. My son just went through the same headace.

The ultimate fix requires the motor to be rebuilt about, $3000. It's ok, go ahead and cry. Then get rid of the big *!!&%#$ as soon as you can.

The temp sensor may be going out or you may have a bad ground between the engine block and the body of the car.

1998 cadillac deville leaking coolant, temperature was around 196 and when leaking started temperature has gone as high as 225, what is causing this problem?

This most certainly sounds like a water pump issue. The thermostate is located inside the water pump housing and if the pump is bad you'l lose fluids and need to add every day or so. The temp guage will run hot and often the heater won't warm up. You have even notice fluids on the ground below the front passenger side of the car. Try getting a pressure test first before replacing anything. That's a good place to start the diagnosis.

I bought a thermostat from advance auto parts for my 1999 cadillac deville but I was told that it should only be bought from a cadillac dealership but I used it anyway. I put the thermostat on and the car...

Who did all this work?
Was the water pump bad?
Was the radiator, so clogged it could not be cleaned?

What diagnostics was done?

Is the car actually over heating? That is where you start

All that work may have been for not

When you removed the stat, the temp never went up,only the gauge,
can not run a veh without the stat, the temp sensor needs it in there

Is the exhaust converter partially blocked?
Is the engine running rich

Have the data looked at.

FOR THE 4.6L ENGINE THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING LOCATION IS NEAR THE WATER PUMP DRIVE BELT ON TO COOLANT CROSSOVER HOUSING.

My cadillac deville overheats a lot, why does it do that?

Check the radiator, hoses, and water pump for leaks. If you don't see any coolant loss, the problem is most likely a faulty thermostat. Hope this helped and best wishes.

looked it up online and looks like it's on the front of the water pump in a thing called the coolant inlet housing. one end of it looks something like the letter y and the other end, where the thermostat is round. hope that helps

Coolant temp. raising. no coolant loss.

first with the car off and cool squeeze bottom radiator hose with your hand then do the top, this burps any air out of the system,of course have the cap open,if this doesnt solve the problem its your radiator cores are block as you speed up its trying to force coolant thru a blocked core and temperature rises, you can pull your raidiator and have it cored at a radiator shop, cheeper than buying new
